I recently recieved a ticket for Minor in Possession of Alcohol while I was with my friends…However, I was NOT drinking (blew a .000 on the breathalyzer)…I still have to take a class on alcohol abuse…My ticket should by all means be completely dismissed, do you think I still have to tell colleges about it (especially, the school I applied ED to???)

If you want some thoughtful comments on your situation, try posting in the parents forum. I am wondering what the exact nature of your offense was, and whether your applications had specific questions about legal violations. If you had received a ticket for jaywalking would you be required to report that to colleges? If you were ticketed for violating the terms of a provisional license (having more than one unrelated minor in the car with you) would that need to be reported to colleges? I seriously doubt the several DOZENS of kids in my town cited for underage drinking reported the offense on their college apps. I guess you can see where I stand on this: I see no need to volunteer the information. BUT, if there is a very specific question on the app that you can no longer honestly answer "NO" to, it gets a little sticky.

There was a precedent set some years ago when Harvard accepted a young woman and later withdrew that acceptance when they learned that she had lied about her criminal record. Well, she had bludgeoned her mother to death at the age of 14.

If you are found guilty yes but if your offense is dismissed then no-ask your lawyer or a lawyer friend to clarify. If it is first offense and they dismissed it You should be OK.

I think if there is a question about whether you have been convicted of crimes, then absolutely be truthful, but unless there is a specific question, there is no point in telling them. Talk to a lawyer. I really don't think a misdemeanor possession with no BAC will disqualify you.

even if you do have to mention it, i dont think most colleges care if you mess up once, they understand. i know several people who have gotten tickets for something weed related and it didnt affect their college's decisions

that happened to me and i marked "no that i've never been convicted of a crime" on my application. it is illigal for colleges or any other businesses except the court of law to look at a minor's (under the age of 18) permanent record. so anyways... i marked "no" and i have already been accepted to 2 colleges.. so don't worry.

i'm in the same boat with possession and assault misdemeanors, so i looked up the nearby police department to ask some questions. I asked the officer what do I put for "Have you ever been convicted of a crime?" He said to put no. Convicted means tried and found guilty in court. If you weren't tried and found guilty in court it's safe to put no.
