I had way too much to drink tonight and I was walking down the street with a friend. We got pulled over by a cop and he asked us a few questions. I didn't have any liquor on me. He takes me back to headquarters and we're there for maybe 30 minutes. He gets my information and calls my parents to pick me up. I'm assuming this is just a citation? He was filling out a juvenile detainment form. I asked him and he said this would probably get to my HS. Will the colleges that i'm applying to know about this??

Yes and you have to report this on your applications, as they usually ask if you have had any run ins with the law.

cory123, what are you thinking?? of course you have to report this to the colleges. They will find out anyway.

how will colleges find out, and why must I put this on my application? They usually ask about suspensions and arrests, and this case was neither. Also, am I in the clear for my early action schools, which I have already applied to?

Um, I thought that the app only asked whether you had been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor. Read the app carefully and figure out if what you did applies.

My apps asked what I mentioned above. I had a parking ticket and I didn't report that because I haven't been to court yet or been charged as guilty (and I don't think that I would need to report even if I was). I don't know what a "juvenile detainment form" is considered legally, but it just sounds like a form he had to fill out because, literally, he detained/kept you there for 30 min. That is not charging you for a crime...

bump anyone else have any advice/experience with this?

You would know if you were getting charged with anything. Maybe you didn't say it, but if it is what you said, you are in the clear.

Quixotic and guitars - What are you thinking? This is like getting pulled over but released, nothing was put on this kid. If it was an MIP the kid would know.

I don't know if it is the same as it is in Michigan where this kid is, but in Michigan - you can't get a breathalyzer(if not driving) unless you admit to drinking. So they couldn't bust him, but could at least try and put some pressure on his parents to fix behavior.

I agree with frazzledmaybe. You did not get arrested. It sounds like you were brought in for protective custody.Do you have to go to court? If not, you do not have to report it. Try not to worry too much and don't get into anymore trouble.
I personally doubt this will even get to your HS...esp since the cop say "maybe".

ok thanks guys. Yeh i learned my lesson.....public drunkeness is bad lol. I don't think I'm going to court, so I guess the cops let us off easy. It was pretty obvious that I was drunk though, but they just let our parents pick us up.

Dude, I think you are OK as long as they don't charge and convict you of public drunkeness.

Here's the relevant info on the Common Application

Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at an educational institution you have attended from 9th grade forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in your probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution? Yes No

Have you ever been convicted of a misdemeanor, felony, or other crime? Yes No

If you answered yes to either or both questions, please attach a separate sheet of paper that gives the approximate date of each incident and explains the circumstances.

At some schools, they would secretly view this as a bagde of honor. :)

Be careful. The next you get caught, you may get really screwed.

What about getting a ticket after getting in a car accident? Do you have to report something like that?
