Im a senior at a decent NJ school. I recently got rejected from Rutgers, despite having essentially accounting that it would be a safety school. Ill list my stats and schools i have applied to. Please chance me and recommend a safety school.

BTW i have a serious hook in that i started high school with c's and d's in CP classes and in my first semester of senior year with (AP Physics C, AP Calc AB, AP Chem) i got honors.

STATS:

Freshmen year: 2.6 U, 3.1 W
Soph: 2.5 U, 2.9 W
Junior: 3.3 U, 4 W

Hard to tell what your criteria are when you are applying to a monster like Purdue and a small LAC like Muhlenberg. What kind of school do you see as a fit? That needs to be clarified before worrying about chances.

Not sure why you think improving your grade is a “serious hook”. It may get some consideration to help explain your poor GPA, but it not the type of thing that is going to get you into a top school. If the reason behind it is especially compelling, you may have a better shot. i.e.: turns out I could not see properly and once my vision was fixed, voila, I got good grades. Otherwise, it just looks like very good improvement. The counter argument without a solid reason is that you were slacking as a freshman. That is not really a hook. Just sayin’.

I would shoot for 2 years or so at a regional school. In Texas it would be like UT Tyler, but I don’t know equivalents in your area. Once you establish a solid footing taking college level courses, you can transfer into a ‘big’ school. Your degree is still issued from the ‘big’ school and there are no asterisks or anything on it.

Quinnipiac and perhaps TCNJ should be a match but everything else is a reach.
I think you should apply to a few more colleges from this list:
<a href=“College Search | College Finder | Colleges by Major & Location”>College Search | College Finder | Colleges by Major & Location;
You may have a shot at Wooster, Allegheny, Illinois Wesleyan, Lake Forest but they’re probably reaches. You could apply to 1-2 in case a holistic admission process favors your profile.
Ohio Wesleyan, Hiram, Guilford, McDaniel, Washington (MD), Washington&Jefferson, Siena, UMass Lowell, Siena, Wagner, Ohio Wesleyan, Elizabethtown, Suusquehanna, Wells, Austin, Rowan, Randolph-Macon, Drew, Flagler.
You should apply to 3-5 of those.
Iona, Carroll of Montana, Suffolk, Randolph, Florida Southern, Wheelock, King’s, Lycoming, SUNY Plattsburgh, Plymouth State would be safeties. You should apply to 2 of those.

What you have indicated is someone whose abilities exceed production. Maybe a late-bloomer. You have indicated no goals. College might be a place where you can come into your own and figure out your place in the world. I’ve seen many cases of that.

Frankly, I wouldn’t consider any 4-year college a “safety school”. Take what you can get. But you will probably have some choices. They are all out to make some money. So, pick the one where you can see yourself getting involved and producing.

There is nothing wrong with using a 2-year college to take the general education requirements and figuring out your goals. Might save some heartbreak and cash. And, with some production, it might open up some doors that were previously closed.
