Help Asap

my daughter's ACT grades are significantly better than her SAT and SAT II scores therefore she has decided to not send any collegeboard tests. This is alright because you either send ALL or NONE of your SAT scores.

my daughter's high school though refuses to take her SAT scores off her transcript. she has applications to get out and this will severly hinder her acceptances.

a fellow parent said something about a law or act instituted saying it was solely between the student and testing organization about score reports and that the school has no jurisdiction. Does anyone know anything about this. I have fought with the assistant principal and now have an appointment with the principal himself. Please the only way to change their mind is if i can get a hold of this "law." or if anyone has any advice i can use it asap.

thank you

Maybe I have forgotten the process, but how did the HS get the SAT scores? I thought SAT scores were only released to schools as approved by the student.

I don't know about the law. As far as the HS and the SAT scores, if you put down your high school when you sign up for the SAT, they send your scores to the HS....I would post a more specific thread where the topic is extremely clear..."Law regarding SAT scores on HS Transcript" or something like that as I know there are some more knowledgable than I about this topic on this board

at my Ds school, the scores are on the back side of the transcript, if you don't wann them sent you sign a form, bright orange, and that side is not copied when transcripts are mailed... system works very well....

you can stop them from sending them out, it is not THEIR information to share unless you want them to, if our school has a specific form, it must be okay to request it not be sent out

Be tough...they are just being lazy...they can easily print out transcripts without the SAT scores on it...because they input tose scores themselves anyway

don't let them bully you, they just don't want to do something extra, and they figure if they do it for you, then they might have to do it for others

tell them you know other schools have forms requesting info not be sent, so you know that many other HSs are able to honor the valid requests of its students....

If what the school wants is a legal reason to remove SAT scores from your D's transcript, then by all means take a lawyer to the meeting with you -- one who is also a member of the Board of Education! Seriously though, this SHOULD be a non-issue. I agree with the poster who said "Insist."

It seems odd to me that they would be able to do this against your wishes. I suggest you contact the College Board and see what they have to say.

Agree that it is a good idea to post a thread with your specific qx, as ebeee suggested. xiggi, for one, is a tiger on this subject and may have chapter and verse if you attract his attention.

I usually hate the notion of traipsing into school with your lawyer at your side, but sometimes they need it. I hope you don't have to, but I would take CGM's suggestion seriously if you don't prevail. Your hs administration has ABSOLUTELY NO RIGHT to do something which will adversely affect your daughter's admissions chances. Someone needs to knock them upside the head.

Our school takes the opposite extreme -- they will not send out test scores. Students/families are responsible for having them sent to the appropriate colleges from the appropriate sources.

Your district is just being inflexible -- there's nothing inherent in the admissions process that says the school must send test scores.

It must be frustrating to have to make a great big noisy fuss over something that should be a non-issue. Good luck.

This was just discussed on our professional listserv (scores on transcripts). I'll go back through the posts and if I find legal information about scores on transcripts, I'll post it.

The short answer is that a few states (WI and WA, for example) have laws that classify SAT scores as personal information (after all, someone pays for them, it's not provided by the school). If scores are personal information, I think FERPA would prevent the school from releasing them without the student's permission.

Joyo, check your private messages for more info.

Dean J. I was hoping you would weigh in on this one..that's why I suggested that the OP change the topic for the thread..knew there were others out there who were smarter than I on it and would PM the OP.

Our's used to send out the scores on transcripts. They quit doing it in the past couple of years. Their reasoning: most colleges insist that the applicant send the test scores to the college directly from CB, we might be sued if we get the SAT score wrong on the transcript, so why put the info on the transcript in the first place. If I were a school, I'd be looking for a reason to remove the SAT scores!

The high schools receive a printout of the scores of all of the students who take the SATs. They often use this info in their profiles--average SAT verball=520, etc.

Thanks so much for raising this important question.

On my school system's high school transcripts, there is a second page that lists all test scores, including SAT, SAT2, AP, ACT, and Stanford9 (now Stanford10 -- given in freshman year). I just checked my college son's transcript from a few years ago. (I'd thought that the scores were on the back side, but it is a separate, stapled sheet of scores.)

I have no idea if this second page is sent to colleges, and now I am going to find out!
