34 definitely makes your D’s application stronger. If Duke is still her #1 and you’ve run NPC and can afford it, go for it - although given the trend last year, it’s still uber competitive. Your D should do well with the California schools with this new score. If she’s applying to any of the competitive merit scholarships at Tulane, the 34 should help as well. Really depends on a) what you can afford to pay and if you want your D to have options (both financial and academic) come April and b) how strongly your D feels about ED-ing somewhere. Do keep on keeping us posted. Will be interesting to see what your D does and hear about her results.
Small update.
D20 got her first acceptance to Indiana University (Kelley School of Business) with maximum Dean’s scholarship total of 44k. Likely a back-up college but good to have a solid option in the bank already.
All apps are in except Vanderbilt which is a maybe submission.
Congrats! It is always a relief to have the first one in the bag.
You may recall that I am a big fan of Kelley. And what a merit award. Good lord. Great first business lesson perhaps.
Congrats in a big way.
Thanks. Just to clarify the merit is 11k per year (44k total) but still nice.
@socaldad2002 Did she apply to honors? That’s another grand or 2, I believe. It’s been 3 years, but I recall it being worth something…
She did not apply to Honors even though the website said that its automate for high stat kids that just apply under regular admissions?
Congrats on IU Kelley! Your daughter has a high floor already.
Vanderbilt is absolutely need-blind. My eldest was accepted to Vanderbilt. After her acceptance, Vanderbilt Fin Aid Dept contacted my ex- to ask her if she was applying for financial aid, since she had not. She had assumed it would be too expensive, so had not bothered!
ED 1 Duke (#1 in the South) and ED II Vanderbilt (#2 in the South) sounds like a perfect strategy. I don’t know if any college ranks higher than Vanderbilt in so many important categories in the Princeton Review either https://www.princetonreview.com/college/vanderbilt-university-1022817.
Students simply love Vanderbilt.
I have two daughters at Vanderbilt, so if you have any questions, feel free to direct message me.
Update:
D20 was accepted to Duke Universoty last night and is officially done with the college admission process.
I guess the “average excellent” student can get in to top colleges!
My D knows that she is very fortunate for the opportunity and I’m sure she will make the most of her college experience.
Thanks for following her journey and giving great advice.
Go Blue Devils!
Congrats to your D! Wonderful news!!!
Thanks for circling back and letting us know.
Duke! Congratulations! Must be one happy Dad!
Congrats! That’s great news and must feel so nice to be done with this process!
Congratulations!
Thanks for coming back to let us know the terrific news.
Time to celebrate!!! ?
Congrats. Keep up posted on her experiences at Duke. Our D22 interested
