Dean J: which part? The "back to Richmond" part (I mean, C'ville is a good hour+ away...and we're our own city and all) or just the fact that we (UVA) should have to enter a contest to bring a native Hoo back to the University? =P

Jags, you'll find that most Cville residents support UVa and especially UVa sports, which is common in college towns where major sports teams aren't present. I think someone can be part of the UVa community without having spent four years here.

There are people working on grounds who have been here much, much longer than you, but who haven't had a chance to take a class here. Are they not Hoos?

Obviously there are people from C'ville who support UVa. And I wasn't implying that unless you graduated from the school you can't be a "hoo." But just because you root for our football team doesn't make you a "Hoo." Since you've been here longer than I have, you should know that there are plenty of shady people in C'ville who both you and I would agree are not what UVa would want to be considered part of the community (sorry for the awkwardness of that sentence...).

Also, I would think you would agree that student/townie relations are "strained" at best. If you don't agree with that, I think you are a little out of touch with the students population as a whole and the rest of the town of C'ville.

Uh...yeaahhh....it was more in reference that because DMB started out in C'ville, playing for UVA students, and made his launch from here, that he is considered a "Hoo".

I agree on the shady kids part though haha I love the Corner at 2am.

shoe -- the kids on the corner at 2am aren't the shady ones. they're mostly just drunk uva students ;)
try the ones outside shady grady at 2 am...

jags -- i agree that cville townie/uva students relations are strained at times -- most townies don't appreciate the added traffic and congestion that comes with the return of students to the university. After spending several summers here, I completely understand why :) And of course, there are some other reasons of contention between townies and students

And I know of townies that appreciate the school being here, but wouldn't want to be called 'Hoos' -- To them, Cville is more than just The University
