Write good essays. Beyond that...it's hard to say from numbers.

Definitely give it a go.

The most important question is: if you were to get in, do you have what it takes to survive here? It is not the generic college experience. You have to have a lot of stamina and focus to make it here. I didn't have much of either when I started school here, and I feel like I'm going through academic boot camp. That having been said, graduates from UChicago can eat graduates from absolutely anywhere else for breakfast, so it's totally worth it. And I love this school so much: I have never been so happy anywhere in my life. I recommend visiting (we love prospective students!) and checking out the atmosphere for yourself. Students that apply here are pretty self-selecting: if you think this school is perfect for you (hint: read the t-shirts--they speak the truth), then odds are pretty good that it is.

haha No they don't! The t-shirts are just self-depricating humor. Though the squirrels here are pretty cute, most of the girls are cuter. Fun is only dead Sunday through Thursday. And I'm not even going to go near Where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA...

hahaha

My personal fave is "where the only thing that goes down on you is your GPA"

Even if I don't get in, can I still get one?

If I get admitted, I will most certainly get myself one of those hilarious T-shirts with "Where fun comes to die" on the back. =)

In all honesty, though, the essays are what essentially "makes or breaks" your application, from what I observe. Allow your character (regardless of how quirky you may be) to shine through them.

In fact, eccentricity=great at UoC!

U of C has so much personality. It's really in a class of its own.
