Help! Can Low GPA get into a good IR program?

Hello, my name is Jack and I am an international student studying at a LAC (US News 40-50). I will be applying grad school this fall. I hope to find a good Master program in International Relations/Affairs with a concentration of US-China Relations. Please give me some tips and suggestions. Thank you!

My GPA is relatively low (3.1), but the professors are really strict in grading. Some of my highlighted experience: I have interned in Carnegie Endowment for 1 summer and European parliament for 1 semester. I haven’t taken any GRE test yet, will take it this Sept.

I really like SAIS, especially their dual-degree program with Tsinghua University in China. I wonder if I will have any chance getting in.

Sincerely,
Jack

Not with a 3.1, unless you have interesting characteristics…
What languages do you speak?
What’s your major-only GPA?
What would you do with that Master 's?

I speak Chinese, Japanese, English, and a little Spanish.
My major GPA is 3.5
I want to pursue a phD, then I hope to work at a think tank.

Your major GPA and critical foreign language fluency will help.
Try to find an extenship foe the fall.
What are you doing this summer?

I am basically going to study for SAT, and I have a short research internship at Tsinghua University IR department in Beijing.

Sounds good for your goals. Any chance you can stay at Tsinghua at a Master’s program for internationals, in order to boost your credentials a bit? Everyone knows it’s a top university and it’d certainly help.
I suppose you mean GRE, not SAT  .
Any external certification for your world languages would also help you.
