I am a Texas resident and I realize I can apply for TAFSA (texas fed. aid) however, I want to apply to out of state schools. Is there anything I can do to apply for financial aid even though I am unable to apply for FAFSA.

I my parents sent out an application for permanent residency and we should be getting it any time now, however I am unsure if I will get it in time to file for federal aid.

I really want to apply to Brandeis, but I am unsure if it is even worth it considering that I may not be able to file for fafsa. my parents only make about 96k and a 60 grand school without aid won't be an option.

Please help me! I am applying for scholarships but the applicant pools are either too big or competitive so I am not relying on private scholarships.

THe only thing that the FAFSA does is provide you with an EFC that determines your eligibility for federal aid. IF your parents make 96k, you will not receive any federal aid other than loans. As an OOS student, you will not be eligible for any aid other than possible merit money .

This is really a matter of how much your parents are willing to pay for your education. IF you will receive in-state tuition in Texas, then your best bet would be to make sure that you have some schools that are financially feasible options for your family.

Brandeis says that their average financial aid package is 30k… which I would love to receive. I believe my parents want to pay around 20k a year.

You do not need to fill out the FAFSA. Not that the Profile is any picnic! But it does not appear from their website that you need the FAFSA.

Still, there is a question of how they will judge financial need for your family given the $96K salary. You should go to the Brandeis financial aid website and run the Net Price Calculator. It should give you an idea of the breakdown of need based aid you can expect (although if they have federal loans in the package, I guess you would not be able to get those) and what your family will be expected to pay if you are admitted.

You should run the Net Price Calculator on the Brandeis website. My guess is that with an income of $96k for the year, your family contribution will be in the $25,000 range…but that is a guess. The Net Price Calculator will give you a ball park estimate of the kind of aid you might get from Brandeis.
