I got into Umich yesterday and it was one of my top choices. however, I don't live in the US and therefore can't visit the school before I commit. i have researched a lot about it onh various websites but I was wondering if anyone can help me and describe the school for me.
the dorm life, social life, type of student body, the environment on campus and ann arbor, the sports the spirit. anything that can help me understand the school a little better.
thanks i would really appreciate it!

-Dorm life: Very good to average, depending on the dorm (avoid Baits)
-Social life: Fun, diverse, laid back
-Type of student body: 26,000 undergrads (60% in-state, 35% ou-of-state, 5% internation). Generally. With so many students, you will have incredible variety. The average Michigan student comes from an upper-middle income and educated family, is relatively well travelled, and is likely to be both intellectual and social.
-Campus environment: Active, spirited, intellectual
-Ann Arbor: Quaint, intellectual, cosmopolitan, simple, safe
-Sports: Extremely loyals students and alums and successful athletics programs

Overall, Michigan is generaly regarded as one of the most well rounded university in the US. Unless you have an acceptance into Harvard, MIT, Princeton, Stanford or Yale, go for Michigan! hehe!

Do you like the color blue?

Honestly, unless you’re longing for a small, intimate campus where you know every face you see, I don’t think there’s anything you can hope for in college that Michigan can’t offer.

“Do you like the color blue?”

I prefer mine matched up with maize. :-)

UMich is very expensive for non-Michigan residents. Other than that, you shouldn’t have to worry about being disappointed.

It’s a very good school. It’s also big enough that visiting probably wouldn’t help much, because you can find anything you want there. There is a lot about football, but you have a ton of options. If you don’t know what you want to do, you may not find them very helpful in guiding you because of the size. Ann Arbor is a very awesome college town, so no worries there. They are in the midwest, so the students are generally quite friendly.

The OP is an international.

Michigan is a great school and ann arbor is a wonderful place. I think the biggest consideration is how well can you do in a large class? It really depends on what you are comparing it too and what you are looking for. If you don’t need a lot of individual attention and are capable of working independently, I think you will like it.

I think U of M is a great place, very nice campus and town.

The only possible negatives I can think of are
- long cold winter, I personally don’t like that
- large university with large classes, I personally like large places with lots of people and activities
- need to take the bus to north campus, feels like 2 campus instead of 1

Thanks that was really helpful:)
I definitely want a big school and i don’t mind the winter at all because i grew up in the northeast.
money-wise I have to pay full tuition which for my family is managable however i got a $20,000 scholarship at the university of miami so my mom is kinda leaning towards it but I prefer Umich much more.
if you guys can compare the school for me it would be really helpful.
And I forgot to ask about the greek life at Umich?

Alexandre I have a question u might know. I was told not to live on north campus but that housing is random. however someone told me that if u request a roomate rather than go random you are more likely to get put on north campus. do u know if that’s true?
thanks again everyone! more info is always helpful:)

Take a look at the Michigan Learning Communities. Most of them are housed in central campus. [Michigan Learning Communities | University Housing](<a href=“Michigan Housing”>Theme Communities & Michigan Learning Communities – Michigan Housing)

thanks but I think I will apply for regular housing and room blind.

Anyone else??
