Help!--Cate Essay has no word limits!

My daughter has written two incredible essays for Cate but they are both hovering around 800-1000 words each. Is that too long? She ran with their questions because they don't have word limits stated, and questions are somewhat open-ended with multiple parts. The first Parent Statement question even says "Take as much space as you'd like..."

Is there such thing as too long? Or is this just something unique to Cate and I shouldn't worry about it?

My daughter is also applying using gateway. They say that there is a 6,000 character limit which is a round 1,000 words. I believe the character limit has more to do with how they program the online app than Cate’s preference for size. They even mention that you can use additional space if you need it. 1,000 words each sounds fine! Good luck!

Mine are closer to 500, probably because I got used to that length for my other essays. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Hi, Cate student here. When I did it two years ago I think both my essays were just as long (if not longer), so you should be fine. Several English teachers take part in the admissions process, so they do appreciate length when it is warranted. They never set a word limit, meaning your daughter shouldn’t be penalized for a lengthy essay.
