I am getting overwhelmed with all of the "negative" information related to pharmacy school/program acceptance rates.

For anyone who may know, I am listing my stats as an incoming high school senior. I will be applying to 0-6 programs and a couple of 2+4.

GPA-3.94(4.3 scale)

class rank--24th out of 349(top 10%)

SAT ist run 1150 CR and Math--taking again in october with SAT bootcamp course

99% honors classes
one AP class-chemistry-senior year( I was never encouraged to take more)
Orchestra(violinist)
softball
currently employed at CVS-Pharmacy Tech certification pending
Freshman peer mentor
National Honor Scoiety
outstanding letters of recommendation(including boss-Pharmacist)

I beleive that iIam a good candidate and I have a very strong aptitute for science.

I am so nervous...almost sick, that not one pharmacy program will accept me.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It sounds like we're in the same boat. You have a better gpa and test scores though...but i feel you with being stressed out over the whole acceptance thing. It looks like your gpa, rank, and test scores are really good and sets good competition for a 0-6 school. It looks like the only thing you may be lacking is are the AP classes. Colleges like to see students taking the initiative and obtaining a challanging experience. Its extremely good that you've had experience as a tech...especially being a CPhT. What state are you in? They wont let me take the test until I get a diploma. Gah. What schools are you applying to? Even though you have good qualities and your in good position for acceptance. I really wouldn't worry about it. Also something that may help is a personal recomendation from your boss and send it where they got their PharmD. from. And also a personal statement that reveals your "call to pharmacy". Like relate something that happened to work and explain why you want to do that for the rest of your life. Let me know how things are going!

You WILL get accepted, breathe and repeat often! You have the grades, experience, and enough rigorous courses via honors to be competitive. Your score is not bad, in fact it's within the middle 50% for most 0-6's, in fact you are dead on MCPHS' average score last year. Anyway, the averages they give are just that, averages. While some of the average SAT's are in the mid 1200's-low 1300's I am 100% sure that those schools also accepted people in the 1100's. A gpa speaks louder than an SAT at some schools, at a minimum it's usually given equal weight. Also, consider the fact that they actually accept alot more than they enroll - so you're not competing for 250 spots, but for one of 500 acceptances! You'll certainly be okay for the 2+4 programs and, with a decent guaranteed seat, it will probably be identical to the 0-6. My impression is that most of the 0-6's are now going to require PCAT and higher gpa's to meet new ACPE standards anyway.
Keep working on your essay/apps and good luck with your October scores! Good luck!

Thanks for your encouragement. All of my applications have been sent. I was able to score 1200 on my second shot at SATs. My boss(PharmD) also provided me with a stellar letter of recommendation. I am anxiously awaiting the letters now. I have given it everything I have.

Thanks for your note. I am applying to ten schools including ACP, UCONN, MCPHS, Northeastern, Rutgers and URI. The nerves can really get the best of you. I am in MA.
