Ec: I volunteered with a group for children with special needs( I have a sibling with special needs) for all of high school, I’m president of a math club at school, and I’m in 9 other clubs, I did debate, JV track and JV cross-country all in 10th grade, and I’ve volunteered at a few of the local hospitals in my area for a total of around 300-400 hrs of community service total
Awards: 1st place in regional sci fair, bio Olympiad semi-finalist, ap scholar with distinction, 1st place team for UIL science(I got 6th individually since all the seniors beat my score when I was a junior)</p>
<p>Duke is very selective. Even the best students often get rejected there. A big part of applying there is that you need to have something that really (and i mean really) stand out about you. ECs are up to par, but Duke is not just interested in numbers and what you do. They want to know who you are and why the heck they should select you over other overqualified applicants. Just my .02 cents though, take it what you will.</p>
<p>Umm I wrote my essay about how my brother’s mental condition has impacted me and how much I’ve matured from that(along with the extra responsobilities I’ve picked up since I was 7 years old)</p>
