Recently committed to a liberal arts college. I’m becoming increasingly unsure of my decision, and don’t know if I put enough thought into it initially–i’m primarily afraid that it’ll be too small, but also scared that I won’t be able to get a job immediately afterward, and about the lack of name recognition. I committed 4 days ago, on the first. Do any of you know if it’s possible to un-commit, and to commit to another college, even though the deadline has passed? This would help a lot. Thanks!
You would need to call the school that you did not accept first to make sure that they still can accommodate you. then you can call the school you did commit to and talk to admissions staff. They are people too and won;t want you there if you don’t want to be there. I think small LACs are great. I think students get much more out of them academically, as a general rule. Could it be that where ever you committed you’d be having 2nd thoughts. Do you tend to second guess yourself? If so, you should talk with a counselor or parent to ensure you are not just fretting needlessly.
Many people have those feelings – kind of a buyers remorse. Think about why you chose the LAC in the first place. But I agree with the comment above, it you want to change you need to call the admissions dept. of the school you now want to attend, ask if they have spots, and if they will admit you. Get it in writing. If you get confirmation that that school will let you in then send in a deposit and then notify the LAC that you will not be attending. And for the record my D is having a fabulous experience and is getting a great education at a LAC.
