please help! i think i've made a huge mistake

Hello,

I was recently accepted early action to a college. After careful consideration, I decided to keep my regular decision applications to two other colleges. A couple days ago, I decided to accept the offer of admissions from the college to which I was accepted and rescind my other two applications. I’ve been having so much buyer’s remorse and anxiety about my decision and I wish I could go back and keep my other two applications such that I could see those results in the spring and make my decision then. While I would be happy at the college to which I was accepted, I really wish I could go back and reinstate my other two applications and tell this college that I am actually still undecided. Is there any way I could do this?

Thank you.

I don’t really know, but it seems to me that you could look up your admissions rep at each school and make a phone call directly to them tomorrow to explain the circumstances. I imagine they would be receptive to adding you back 8nto their pool for review.

You can very likely reactivate the applications. Just call when they are back from break and let them know you had rescinded your application, but have changed your mind again. You don’t need to give a reason. Ask if you need to do anything additional besides calling. I wouldn’t worry about finding “your” admissions rep. Just call the main admissions number.

If you’ve paid your EA school deposit, you may end up losing that. You can call and ask if you can get it refunded because you are still undecided. But they’d be within their rights to keep it. If you pick a different school in the end, you need to tell the EA school for sure you are not coming. Again, you probably won’t get the deposit back. As long as you have only 1 school thinking you are coming there as of May 1, you are within the admissions rules.

Thank you so much! I will talk to my college counselor tomorrow at school and do the things you have suggested! @intparent thankfully I have not made any deposits yet, so I will not lose any money.

Another piece of advice you may want to consider…you have until May 1st to make a decision. You certainly don’t have to wait that long…but there is no sense in committing too quickly! Take some time, do 2nd visits if necessary, and then take some more time!
