Hey guys!
So my cousin went to columbia, class of 1998. Anyways, I was recently talking to him, and he told me that I should put him down on my application, because that he too would count as a legacy; he said that it would boost my chance.
My Question:
Do cousins count as legacy?

While the application does ask f you have any relatives who attended, your cousing graduating from the school does not make you a legacy and will not boost your chances

hmm i was wondering the same thing cept about my sis. She graduated frm emory 04 and is at harvard med now. Am i a legacy at either?

It depends upon the school .For the most part, it your parents, grandparents graduated as an undergrad then you are considered legacies of a school Your sibling would not make you a legacy per say giving you any type of boost in the process, but may be a small (emphasis on small) tip factor between you and a similiarly qualified candidate that did not have a sibling. It may just give your application a second look because you have an immeadiate family memeber who is an alum.

Keep in mind that it is not unusual for the sibling of a current student to be rejected from the same school.

It can't hurt to put it down.

i guess it wouldnt hurt, but does it matter if my cousin and i are close? maybe such a relationship implies that money contribution would be involved if a close one goes to the school--that is what legacies are about, right?

My sister is a Columbia grad and I am a Cornell grad, my D is only conisdered a legacy at one school.
