Hello.

So I applied to some CSU schools last minute. Changed my path and major a little bit.

Long story short, realized I just don't have the oral communication part of the Golden four classes.

Does this make me immediately ineligible? Like an automatic denial?

Or is it possible to be accepted without it, but take it at the school or in the summer?

I just can't add it next semester, I have too many classes...

Thank you!

It should be an automatic denial. You can hope that somehow you squeeze past the guard at the gate, but many CSUs are actively LOOKING for reasons to disqualify candidates because there is such a clamor for spots. The Golden Four is fairly non-negotiable and you should expect a routine denial once either a computer sees the lack or if it gets past that phase (ie: if you “wrote” on your app that you were going to complete it but you actually don’t take it) you will get any admissions revoked later when they do a transcript verification.

Take the class or expect to have to apply next year instead.

do you think I can take it in the summer?

You have to check each CSU individually, since I believe each CSU sets this policy separately. I know several that do NOT allow for these classes to be squeezed in over summer. Again, since this is a CSU-specific policy, you need to look or ask around. And also note that unfortunately, you will often get wrong info because often the folks at CCC or a CSU are just not well informed on these policies.

I’m assuming you’re a transfer, I can’t speak for freshman admission. You will be automatically disqualified without having passed the golden four by the end of the spring 2012 semester (at least definitely for Long Beach, Fullerton, Northridge, and SF State, check their sites for confirmation.) Is there anything else you can drop or take online so you can take speech in spring? Then when you enroll in it, you can contact the schools and tell them you made a mistake in your planned classes and you need to add your last golden four class. There’s really no other option. Just to make it clearer: I’ve already been accepted to Fullerton on the condition that I complete the golden four classes by the end of spring with a C or better. I still need speech as well.

Thank you guys for the help.

Called admissions at SDSU, she said it is a MUST.

Added comm101 to my schedule for next semester (oral comm).

are the golden four courses A1, A2, A3, and B4 on the application?
