Help Critical Reading and Time

I'm taking the Mat SAT, I'm aiming for a 2200. Unfortunately, I do not think that it is going to happen.

-My scores fluctuate like crazy, and I am starting to get depressed. On SparkNotes, I wrote the general SAT two times and got 2090 and 2210. Then I wrote a practice test from College Board, and did not even get 1900.

-I do not know how to study for this stuff. My math is consistently the highest of my three scores, writing second, and critical reading last. My scores were 560/610/690 on the test from College Board.

-I always seem to finish just in time or run out of time, especially for CR. Once I tried writing a practice test without time limits, and I did...good. I know this stuff, but I am too slow.

-I suck at long passages, especially the long paired passages. I get almost every question wrong.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

don’t take any tests except collegeboard tests…
these are the only ones made by the actual testmakers and therefore are the only truly accurate representation of your scores

wait, lemme add that you may have just had an off day when you took the collegeboard test, your score may go back up :)

What does that mean?

he means that u probably had a bad day. everyone has one.

Oh. No I do not think so, but I hope so. When I took the test, I felt confident, and I was well rested, etc…

I just suck donkey balls. I need help.
Good thing I live and Canada and I can still go to university if I get a bad ass SAT score!

edit: I still want to be able to choose though.

Are we allowed to double post? If not, someone can delete my previous post.

The last SAT practice test I wrote, which i got 1860 on, I ran out of time really badly!! In total, I had 13 questions in the CR section I did not finish, 3 in math, and 2 in th writing section.

But it really is not the questions that screw me over; I can get an okay score if I finish. It is the time that is the problem.

By the way, does anyone know where I can get College Board SAT practice tests for free?

you can’t purchase any CB practice tests for free.

It just takes practice I guess.

Here’s how you can improve your score:

Do your test without timing and investigate each question meticulously so as to get every single question right.

Keep doing this 'til the month before your test; the month before the test is when you start timing yourself when doing practice tests.

This is how i raised my score from a 1820 to 2080

I’ll continue using that method and hopefully I’ll be able to bring it up again, this time to at least 2200

gl & hf

Only take CB tests because Sparknotes are not necessarily accurate indicators. Get the blue book.

There are two free sample tests on the CB website.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

112358, where are the two free tests? I can only find one.

mcvcm92, I am not really interested in spending any money; plus I live in a small city in Canada, so it might be a bit harder and more expensive to buy a SAT test prep book.

oneproudKorean, I tried writing a test or two without the time limit, and I also went over the questions I got wrong. I understand how going over the math section can help me (learn concepts, blah blah), but it seems futile to go over the writing and CR sections; it is not likely that I will see the exact same question again.

I guess I should have started preparing earlier. I did a bit of preparing here and there, but I did not really take it seriously until about a week ago. I alread signed up for the May SAT test, which is on May 2.

bump…
too short!? blah blah blah…

They’re actually administered SATs, so they may be even more valuable than the BB tests.

Hey thanks that helped a lot. This will keep me busy for a while.

I have been doing some practice questions to improve my CR lately, but I keep on making mistakes on the same types of questions:

 • author’s tone
 • implications
 • inferences

These are the three biggies. Any help would be appreciated. Thx.

I went to Rocket Review Revolution and found a couple of SAT practice material there. Does anyone know if it is reliable?

http://www.rocketreview.com/index.php

dude, all this time you are wasting looking for resources, you could be improving your score by practicing out of the BB. If timing is your only problem, simply doing timed sections and going over your answers will suffice.

Yea but the problem is I do not have a blue book, and I cannot get a blue book. I need other material.

ok, we’ve gotten to the root of the problem. You need to get the BB. Period.

I can’t. I live in Canada. And I’m taking the May 2nd SAT.

What does living in Canada have anything to do with anything? Pick it up online and use rush delivery. You could buy the book at your local bookstore as well.
