Help! Denied Financial Aid

Hey everyone, I'm going into my sophomore year and I just found out that I got denied any financial aid whatsoever. In the state of Florida, you're GPA apparently has to be a 2.0. My GPA at the moment is a 1.979. So my two questions are: What accredited universities have online classes that are still open right now, and if online classes aren't an available option, what would be the best way to appeal? I really have no excuse for a bad GPA but it's really hard to win an appeal. Any help would be lovely!

Thanks!

The universities are going through summer courses right now. Most of them are extension types of courses. You need to see if you can take some online CC courses that will help your GPA. It is mid summer so a number of classes will be closed.

You can’t get your financial aid back with a poor GPA. With FA you did poorly, without FA how will you do? You need to get some discipline and organization in the way that you study.

Generally, only taking classes at your current institution will raise your GPA. Transfer courses will not usually impact GPA. If you are trying to raise your GPA taking one or two courses at your current institution and earning B+ or above should help raise your GPA.

Have you tried an appeal?

I would definitely try to file an appeal if you want to graduate from the school you are currently attending. Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is actually a new (July of 2011) Federal standard for students utilizing Financial Aid. The best bet is to appeal, or determine how long you have to wait prior to returning to the school that put you on probation. The ‘loop hole’ however is that SAP starts over at each school so you are only denied Financial Aid at your current school, but could take courses elsewhere and then transfer back. Just make sure you are taking courses that will transfer.

Again, when you transfer, you only transfer credits. You do not transfer GPA. If student does not have the overall GPA to be granted a degree, s/he will not graduate.
