Any suggestions on where to apply and what type of shot I have at getting in?? Fanks.

Reach: Stanford, Princeton, Duke (this is a tweener, though)
Match: UC Berkeley, Cornell
Safety: UofI, UMich

I wouldn’t bet against you getting rejected from all your top reaches (which should be schools like Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Princeton, etc.) so I’d think that cumulatively they’d constitute a match (keep in mind, though, that matches are not guarantees)

Do you mean that there is a decent shot I would get in to my reaches? Or do you mean that it is extremely unlikely? I’m a little caught up in the triple negative and comment about them constituting a match…thanks for the reply anyways.

I think Senior0991 means that you will get in at least one of your reaches, therefore if you combine all your reaches together they would be a match, while separately they would still count as reaches.

I’d say Princeton, MIT, Caltech, Cornell (Engineering) and Stanford are all reaches. Harvey Mudd, UCB, Carnegie, UIUC, Michigan are matches. If you apply for College of Arts and Science instead, Cornell could be a high match. For safety, I’d suggest Purdue, Texas A&M, and RPI.

^Is Harvey Mudd really a match? I heard admissions standards there were really high (similar to a Caltech), but I don’t really know much about it.

OP- if you apply to UofI and UMich through their priority/rolling admissions program (which you could do with a restrictive early action), that would pretty much constitute a safety. On the off-chance you get rejected/deferred from both, you could always apply to some of Moosey’s suggestions RD.

And yeah, that was what I was trying to say, although you said it much better :)

While the SAT scores of Caltech and Harvey Mudd are about the same, Harvey Mudd’s acceptance rate is usually 10-15% higher than Caltech. Although you’re right, Harvey Mudd should probably go more into the low reach area.
Just adding a few other institutions, Rose-Hulman and Olin are both great as well. Cal Poly could be a financial safety as its in-state.
The EA suggestion is a great idea. If you get in EA, you no longer need to spend time and money applying to matches and safeties.
