Help Distinguish Two Similar Essay Prompts

Hi all. I hope this post finds you well.

I write because I am in a small state of confusion regarding two prompts. I hope you can point out the difference between the following prompts.

For Prompt 1, I find that the factors influencing my decision to apply to Pomona relate directly to how I would benefit from, and contribute to, the Pomona College experience. Because it seems that Prompt 1 and Prompt 2 overlap a lot, I am trying to figure out how to create distinct essays. Any insight? Thank you.

"In addition to the personal essay you're asked to write as part of the Common Application, we ask that you write two additional essays. You should view these Pomona-specific essays as an opportunity to share additional meaningful information about yourself with the Admissions Committee. The Admissions Committee is interested in both your ideas and in how you express them, and will read your writing with regard to both content and style. If you will not be submitting this form through the Common Application system, clearly type or print your responses on a separate sheet of paper and attach it to this form. Include your name and social security number on any attached sheet.

1. What factors have influenced your decision to apply to Pomona College? What intrigues you about Pomona's approach to Liberal Arts education?

2. How will you benefit from, and contribute to, the Pomona College experience?"

My apologies if any of the above content is unclear. Let me know if you require clarity.

I think the first essay is more about the ‘college in relation to you’ and the second more about ‘you in relation to the college’ - sounds a bit wishy-washy but I think you can make a beautiful case for it. 1: inhowfar is P different from other schools, what do you think P has that other schools don’t, what makes you interested in P in the first place. 2: how do you personally fit in? What can you personally contribute as a member of the P college community? Etc. Similar idea but different perspective. Good luck!

I think that’s a very clear contrast pommon… I’m wondering why the essay help request at this time, though… aren’t applications already done for the year? Just curious.

Hi, pommom. Thank you for the advice. I very much appreciate it!
