So I was doing research for a school project and clicked on this one website after doing a Google Search. Immediately, I was taken to a page that said "Warning this site may contain Malware!" - it looked pretty shady. There were a few buttons underneath, but I did not click on any of them. I immediately closed the application (safari) and deleted all my history and cookies. I run a Mac, by the way, without Norton or any security software.

Could my computer have a virus now?

I’m not 100% about Mac stuff, but trusting everybody’s claims, you may well be okay. However, Macs are hackable and have been.

If Safari itself was warning you, then you are probably okay since you probably didn’t download anything before the warning to harm you.

You could do an online anti-virus scan, but I would assume most only support Windows. Try searching TrendMicro, Kaspersky, or ESET online scanners. Also, you may try downloading and running Malwarebytes, if it even runs on Mac.

Just to be on the safe side…

FYI: Learn from your mistakes, and those of others.

You don’t have a virus.

Google warning pages don’t give you a virus.

/thread

Most likely not.

What you did was basically an online version of this:
You get off the bus at a shady area in town after following directions a friend gave to somewhere you might want to go. The friendly bus driver feels that something’s not right and tells you: you may get killed. You heed the advice, get back on the bus, and ensure that you aren’t dead. Not to mention, you’ve been wearing a bullet-proof vest the whole time.
