How much can your family afford?

If you’re interested in LACs, there are a good many out there that will also provide you with pretty decent financial aid given your grades and background. Get your SAT up a little more and you should qualify for a nice bit of merit aid as well. Just going by your interests, I would suggest looking for schools with creative writing programs and strong participation in theater arts. Not that you have to major in those areas, just that they would attract people with your interests. I have a list of colleges that admit at least 50% of students and have graduation rates of at least 50% at diycollegerankings.com. These schools would be less competitive giving you a better shot at financial aid. You could also try using the different college search sites and look for those that have activities in theater and specify by size. Make sure you look at the college cost calculators on the websites. It’s really a process you just have to start and you’ll figure out what’s more important to you has you go along. And you really do need to start with what your family can afford.

Would you prefer to stay in a Christian environment, or try something different?

Would you prefer to stay close to home (and if so where?) or try a new region?

Do you prefer urban or rural?

UNC-Asheville is a good liberal Arts college (Also cheap OOS)

You might want to try the ACT, I got a similar SAT score as you but got a 28 on ACT

A nice reach for you might be Bates College in Maine. My brother went there for theater and loved it, and they are good in English too. They don’t require test scores which is nice for students like you who are stronger in other areas.

They have a diversity weekend in October where they fly students in to see the school. You might want to contact them and see if it’s an opportunity you’d like to take advantage of.

What kind of college would you want to get into?

There are thousands of them in the United States. If by “liberal arts school” you mean a small LAC like Bates, there are about 200 of those. Your grades and scores are good enough to get into most of them. The US News top 20 or so probably would be out of reach. The next 20 or so would be very reachy unless you raise your scores. However, Bates is test-optional, which might help in your case.

It would be helpful if you gave a little more information, like what your EFC (estimated financial contribution) is, where your home state is, and what type of setting you’re looking for.

Off the top of my head, I think Agnes Scott, a women’s college in Georgia, might be a good fit, as would a handful of other women’s colleges. You should also see if your state has a public liberal arts college.

Your SAT scores are in range for Susquehanna in central PA, which is a well regarded LAC.

Thanks so much for the help! I haven’t been able to access my account for a bit sorry! But to answer your questions: I wouldn’t qualify for need based help so Im strictly looking for merit based or outside scholarships. Christian environment isn’t a must have and neither do I put a ton of weight on proximity although I’d prefer more suburban or rural rather than urban.

Thanks again though for the advice!!!
