Looking for advice… I applied to Northeastern and BC EA and found out from BC that I got deferred. BC is my top choice, but Northeastern is a close second. I was thinking about switching my EA at Northeastern to EDII to give myself a better shot at getting in, but if I do that, I’ll have to give up my hopes on going to BC. But if I roll the dice and wait for EA at Northeastern and RD at BC, I may not get accepted at either. My assumption is that I have a better chance at Northeastern by going EDII??? My stats are below. If you were in my shoes, what would you suggest doing? I wish there was a crystal ball. I also applied EA to UNC, RD to BU, UF, and FSU. BC is #1 on my list, Northeastern #2, and UF #3.

Would you recommend I switch to EDII or do you think I have a good shot at EA and therefore, I could wait to see at BC…?
Have u visited both schools? Do you LOVE Northeasterns coop program? If so, then your best chance is at Northeastern ED2. Your SAT/ ACT is a bit low for both schools. ED2 would get you the edge.
Before doing either, I think you should look closely at both schools a bit. Despite their proximity, BC and Northeastern are very different schools - very different social environments, academic approaches, and more. What attracted you to each?
This is all just to make sure that if you did ED at Northeastern, you wouldn’t regret it. If you’d be happy and successful at Northeastern, what do you gain by going to BC? What separates them as #1 and #2?
Thank you suzyq7 and pengsphils. I have visited both and also BU. Definitely I like the campus at BC and even the student feel. But I didn’t dislike Northeastern. I definitely did not get a great feel from BU. I guess I like Northeastern because it’s not BC, but it’s an in between of BC and BU. The plus about Northeastern is that I want to go pre-med and it’s really close to the Longwood area where a lot of hospitals are at - thinking maybe I can get research or shadowing opportunities there without the commute. But as for the school, environment, campus, something really draws me to BC. I’m leaning towards waiting to hear on EA from both, but I’m just nervous there’s always a chance of being rejected by both. The only reason to go EDII at Northeastern would be to improve my chances of at least more likely acceptance there. uggggg…
It sounds like you want a campus college experience and aren’t super attached to co-op. I wouldn’t do ED2 at Northeastern. I would even consider looking to apply to more schools like BC with large campuses near cities rather than in cities like BU / Northeastern.
IMHO, if you are premed, then you better be good with full pay for 8 years, with the understanding that the last 4 will be even more expensive than the first 4. If you are not good with at least $600,000 for 8 years, or if you would need significant loans in order to pay the $600,000, then you would be better off sticking with EA and comparing offers (if any) from Northeastern and BC with UF and other schools.
If you apply ED2 to Northeastern and get in, you HAVE to go there - you’d have to withdraw your application (deferred from EA) to BC. Would you be willing to do that? Give up your chance to go to your #1 school? If so, apply ED2 to Northeastern. If you want to hang onto your BC chance, apply EA to Northeastern. Pretty straightforward.
Thank you everyone. I’m sticking with EA. Thank you for your feedback. Definitely still want to keep hope alive for my #1 choice and the idea about waiting to see how much each school’s financial package was a very important point. Thank you again and happy new year.
