Hey everybody. I haven't shown my presence here for a long time but to make a long story short, my computer broke. Anyways, I was just wondering if being the president of two organizations (one of them is a newspaper I founded in my university and the other one is another organization that I founded that is main objective is helping students to find a better perspective light) and being the vice-president (although is almost as if I am the president) of my university's honor program are enough extracurriculars for my application to Yale, Columbia and UConn? I will be doing a lot of community service and will participate in many of the upcoming events in my university. I'm also in the process of being admitted to an international youth leadership conference in Czech Republic. The conference is very prestigious and will have simulations of UN Security Councils, european model parliaments and a mock international criminal trial. We will be in constant contact with international politicians, prime ministers, etc. It will be a five day trip. Do I need more extracurriculars? If so, which would be more beneficial?

Thanks anticipated, Jemma

P.S: I am a political science major and I'm planning to continue my studies in civil rights law.

Just an opinion. I think those ECs are quite strong. I don't see why you should be concerned about having "more."

My impression - and it is only that - is that ECs do not matter as much in the transfer app process as in the freshman admission process. If they are absent or minor, I don't think that will kill an application. If they are quite strong, as yours seem to be for a college student, I think they may add value.

But I continue to think college GPA and prof recs weigh much more.

I'd welcome any observations that go counter to my impression (or support it) ,as I think many transfer wannabes would like to know how ECs seem to have factored into transfer outcomes.

i for the most part agree with andale, however...

gpa will certainly be the biggest factor in admission to yale...however i would not necessarilly say that prof. recs are more important than ec's, from what i hear...having ec's that really make you stand out and seem other worldly are, i believe, what will seperate you from every other applicant with a 3.9-4.0 out there and get you accepted...having a lukewarm rec. will also likely get you weeded out from such a competitive process, but i think ec's are just as, if not a bit more important

again, its corny but i think true, quality over quantity when it comes to ec's
