So I am now on financial Aid Suspension at my local CC. Is there anything I can do about it? I planned to start online courses at a University and I do not know if it will effect the suspension from the one I was attending. I can no longer attend my CC because of someone that is now attending they could put me in physical danger. I do better on my educating myself with online classes anyways. Any Advise would be helpful!
For starters, look into a restraining order if there is someone who puts you in physical danger. Document everything. Make sure your loved ones know what is going on, have this person’s name and any contact info you might have.
After that, I’m a little confused. Your financial aid from the CC you were attending is on suspension correct? I’m assuming this is due to grades? You won’t be returning there and so appealing to them really isn’t the issue. What sort of aid were you receiving? Was it a state grant? A federal loan? Something from the community college itself? Are you already set-up to use aid at the university (already registered for your courses and such) or is this a plan for Spring and you are looking into how to use aid there. Some state grants have a minimum gpa requirement and so that could possibly limit you at the university. The loans shouldn’t matter. If the money is from the CC, doesn’t matter anyway since you don’t want to return.
Are there any other CC’s in your county offering online classes? I know all of our CC’s do though some offer more than others. These would likely be more affordable than taking them through a university. If it’s an option I’d be looking into it.
Be familiar with the concept of ‘Satisfactory Academic Progress’ as that is the criteria you need to meet to maintain aid. Look it up at your new school, in the student handbook or likely easily found online, use a search engine.
And yes, file a police report without delay if someone is threatening you. You should also inform administration as that means others aren’t safe either.
Finally a word of advice. Make sure the college is accredited by a Regional agency, not a national agency to be sure you are getting a quality education. When you take classes online, you are not educating yourself, you are following a curriculum set up by the school and a syllabus set by the professor at the minimum. Educating yourself is different.
