Help find merit scholarships for college freshman?

Can anyone help? I'll be attending Duke, and paying about 50k/year (ouch!)... so I'm in desperate need for some scholarships.

I had 4.0 GPA, 2100 SATs, 32 ACT, and there's really no chance for financial aid (my parents only make ~65k total, but we own 3 houses). I live in a small state, and didn't do any community service throughout high school. Am I screwed? Or are there some scholarships still out there?

You need to seriously reconsider the wisdom of attending a university that you and your parents are unable to pay for except with loans. Is there nowhere else you can study? Is there still room for the fall (or for January term) at one of your home state universities? With your stats you should be able to be admitted somewhere less expensive than Duke.

You might subscribe to Fast Web, an ongoing scholarship listing, there are still sources with deadlines into the summer and beyond. There are many, many other listings, some cited in the stickies on CC above. Also contact your uni's FinAid office, for possible jobs in campus, coop jobs, paid internships etc. Summer jobs? If you get a good solid internship, in your chosen field you can earn quite a bit in the summers.

Duke meets full need. That you own houses can be a problem in qualifying for financial aid. Friends of ours ran into that problem with Harvard. Dad was disabled and had invested heavily in rentals to get decent, but not large income. The problem came with the equity in those rentals that counted as assets. To sell or borrow, would cut into the modest income. Harvard said "tough luck".
