My main question is how can i improve my out of school activities? I do very well in school; my workload may not be the most time consuming, but it is up there. I've only gotten A's and A-'s. I think i am set for academics but i would really like to know how i can better myself outside of hs. I do play hockey, tennis, i'm in organic garden club, i'm a hebrew school aid, i'm a temple youth group board member, i help my temple rebuild a home a year in my local area and i will be going on fun community service trips to parts of US (yellowstone this year) over summer. However, i feel like i'm not really taking advantage of my time. To me it seems i spend too much time at home doing nothing of any value. I don't really want to sound selfish but community service just does not interest me. I just can't bring myself to do it. Also, i don't really see myself as a leader. I mean i do very well in helping others in class and showing peers how to solve a problem but i don't hold any (and probably won't) positions in the activities i'm currently in. Another problem is that sports is almost all year round which makes it hard for me to commit to a club for a full year. There is things i'm interested in like sciences, technology, my religion and other stuff. But, i don't feel suited to start a club either, i wouldn't be able to go a lot and i'm not comfortable when in charge of a lot of people. I'm more of a participator, not a leader. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks CC!

IMHO - don’t worry about it. EC’s should be what you want to do not what you think some AdCom thinks you should do.

My son was in your position a couple of yars ago, and I talked to a couple of schools he was intersted in. I explained about his sports commmittments, and they said that’s ok, we understand the amount of time that takes.

So, the bottom line - do what you want and do it when when you can. You do not have to open a sou[p kitchen, work in a soup kitchen, or even eat a bowl of soup - unless you want to.

Thanks for the advice!
