Hey guys,

I got accepted ED to CAS on Thursday (Go Big Red!). However, I applied EA to a bunch of places. How do I withdraw my apps? Am I going to get in trouble? Please help, I am really panicking now.

Don’t panic. You won’t get in trouble because you applied EA. Talk to your counselor about withdrawing your applications Monday and don’t worry! Congratulations on being accepted!

You just call their admissions offices & withdraw your application, they are used to this happening & EA isn’t binding.

If you’ve already been accepted at another college EA, do you have to contact them (the other college) to say you’re not going?

^@alphaorionis: yes

this is “freaking out” worthy?

Dude, read the newspaper. And get some perspective. Pick up a phone and ask a human rather than post on an internet advice forum.

Well that’s not very nice. He took the time to ask for help, the least you could do is provide it or just move on…

OP, if you were accepted at Cornell ED, then you must withdraw your applications to other schools as soon as you receive your financial aid package if you applied for financial aid. If you decided that Cornell is financially feasible, you must withdraw all your other applications, whether they are EA or not. You can withdraw your applications by calling the admissions office at those schools. There may be an option on the Common App but I don’t really remember. In either case, it’s not too much trouble.

@AlphaOrionis, no, early action is not a binding agreement. You can apply to multiple schools using the early action feature and then choose not to enroll in any of them.

Hope I was able to help.

Thanks for all the advice, guys! I’ve withdrawn most of my apps, as of Sunday. I should be completely done by Monday!

My younger kid applied to UVA and UMich EA last year when she applied to Cornell ED. After she was admitted she just emailed those two schools to let them know. Now, if OP applied to SCEA schools then it would be violation of ED/SCEA agreement.
