Help from a current NYU Freshmen :D

How is the Slavic Studies program? Any idea?

Thanks!

My daughter just got accepted to NYU CAS. She plans to major in computer science with a minor in art. She’s interested in digital media design. We noticed that some of the dorms are way more expensive than others. Brittany and Rubin are less expensive and some people say they are larger. This doesn’t make much sense. Rubin is on 5th Avenue and Brittany is on East 10th Street. Are these dorms a long walk from campus? Is it safe for a student to walk home after dark to these locations? If you request the less expensive dorms and you get one of the more expensive dorms, I assume you are stuck paying the higher fee. Is this right? Thanks for any info. you can give me.

You’re so nice <3

Just a couple questions.

Are you really happy in NYU? 'Cause there’s no campus and all that and I heard from a lot of people it’s hard to make friends 0.0 I got into Stern and I’m debating between that and UCLA, and I’m more penchant towards UCLA just 'cuz of its life, whereas Stern undoubtedly holds the upperhand in academics.

Also, I hear it’s reeeally competitive at Stern; do you get the impression that people there are stressed and unhappy?

And most of the time in NYU you just stick to yourself right? It’s hard to make a really close group of friends and stuff?

Thank you so much!

hi!!! i was just wondering if any NYU freshmen here were initially placed on the waiting list? how did you manage to get off of it/what course of action did you take besides simply resr=erving your name on the list? NYU is def my top choice and i would absolutely go if they choose to admit me from the list, so i was wondering if any of you who have been in a similar situation oculd provide me with insight! thank you :)

I just got my room assignment for the fall 2010, and was hoping to find someone who could give me some details about the specific room I’m in…fingers crossed…it’s in the East Tower of Third North, room 0506…thanks in advance!!!

Any information available about Weinstein room 0323A-1?

I have so many questions!

Is it easy to change dorms? I was placed in a dorm I dont want to be in  And what are the best/traits of the dorms?
are there any key things i need to look out for before I got o NYU. I’m from california so it would help me If i could know what to bring over from California. Anything to save money like books dorm things? Whats the ideal plan to be prepared when starting the year?
and lastly, is anyone else as nervous as I am? I’m unsure as to what I want to do even though I’m in Steinhardt under applied psych. Should I see if I can transfer to CAS and take a more broad education? And in highschool we were really good on getting help from counselors, will there be people at NYU to help guide us through our classes/courses.

Thank you so much!!! gahhhh I’m panicking from all the stress :/

Hi!
I jut got accepted ED and just wanted to know what the dorms were like in 3N and some information about the different towers.

Thanks! :)

The dorms in 3N are awesome! The south tower is the only tower not renovated so the appliances in the kitchen are out of date as well as the bathrooms. But even unrenovated the rooms are big/better than other dorms and living with more than one person is honestly more fun. I live in the north tower so I really like my room- the kitchens are small and have the basics, not too much counter space and I don’t really find myself using them that much but it is still nice to have them there. The bathrooms have the sink area and then a door that seperates the shower/toilet. the rooms are varying in size for each suite, but you get really good bed storage space since the closets are kind of small. the courtyard is really nice to have it makes it feel cozier. we also have our own foodcourt/gameroom/laundry facilities/study lounge…lots of people there it is a good community feel. The location is about a fifteen min walk to campus but it’s in a GREAT part of NYC.

Hello- I am a high school junior looking at NYU as my #1 choice. I am curious as to what my chances are at admissions. About me:

GPA (first 2 years)- 3.67 UW/3.86W (did not take freshman year seriously enough). Should be able to get all A’s in junior year which should bump my weighted GPA to just above 4.0. Mostly honors courses and 1 AP so far. Most AP’s will be available only senior year and I plan on taking them.

ACT- Planning on taking ACT in Feb. Should be able to get 33, maybe a 34 if I am lucky

Extracurricular- Played/refeferred soccer, did not make JV or varsity team though, still play on club team; Fed challenge club and Wall Street club at school; attended 5 week rigorous math camp last summer

Other- Ethnicity mixed (caucasion/indian); thinking of signing up (and hopefully getting in) macro econ class at NYU next summer to improve my odds.

Any thoughts??? Thanks so much.

Wow! Thanks so much! That has to be the most detailed information I’ve seen on 3N lol Really appreciate it! The battle was between Founders and 3N but I think I’m gonna go with 3N, sounds pretty good!! And I totally agree that living with more than one person is fun! I did a summer program at Cornell and was one of the lucky few to get a quad. Best experience ever! Lol

@Chickenme: I wouldn’t wanna chance you myself just cuz I don’t feel qualified enough lol but I know there’s a thread somewhere on here where all the accepted, as well as rejected, ED students put up their stats so maybe you wanna compare? I still have to put my stats up there.

The rooms in founders are newest and huge but for me personally I like having more than just one room to live in. Plus there are plenty of parties in 3n lol… Good luck with the rest of the college admission process

Any info on what it takes (SAT and GPA) to get into honors program from high school?

I applied ed to nyu i know alot of people have heard already of accpetance, but in my case i applied for the heop program at nyu and i got invited to the information session well i called and they said that they mailed out my letter and i was wondering if the acceptances letters evelopes are big or small (cliche movie thins) idk i just nervous and nyu is of course my number one school or has anyone heard of other people getting in

Hi
Just like a lot of people here, NYU is my first choice too. I love the city!
I was wondering if NYU gives sibling aid? And also, how is the city life? :)

@alisha4NY: I personally couldn’t tell you about NYU sibling aid, but your federal financial aid package should definitely be affected by the amount of college students in your household.
And city life, in my opinion, is pretty awesome. The best part is probably that there’s something for everyone: I’m not much of a partier, but I still never feel bored, because there’s always something fun (or at least interesting) to do.
Good Luck!

Hey guys,
I’m a NYU student currently studying abroad in Shanghai. I just got home from spring break in the Gobi Desert and Hainan, China’s Hawaii! As the most global program in the world and a permanent site set to open in 2013, NYU Shanghai is one of the most amazing study abroad programs. For our Information Technology class, six of us have kept a blog Chinapocalypse detailing our experiences in China and the differences between American and Chinese culture. The official NYU Shanghai program site can be found here which definitely has all the information you want about going abroad.
