Ok. So I posted not too long ago asking about a bunch of east coast schools I have been accepted to, and I’ve narrowed my list down to these 2 amazing schools.
I plan on majoring in neuroscience at the moment with a possible double major in anthropology and a minor in a language. With this, I hope to go on to medical school at the moment, but I acknowledge that I may change my mind. However, I am stuck.
I know that Duke is the best for sciences and has amazing opportunities as well as the highest acceptance rate into medical school, but Georgetown has a medical center along with a brand new science building and it’s right in the heart of DC, the face of opportunity itself. They both have awesome school spirit and I’ve visited both schools so I know how beautiful both are.
I am still waiting for the financial aid package from these 2 schools but they should be pretty similar, although it seems that Georgetown has been much more helpful with it as they have sent me many personal emails about it.
I basically have to decide between these 2 schools (although I’m on the waitlist for Brown and Columbia) so any well-reasoned opinion should be helpful.
So after calling the admissions office TWICE at Georgetown, I still have not received my acceptance letter after they specifically told me that they would send it. The whole system seems extremely flawed IMHO.
Duke has a FOCUS cluster of Neuroscience and Law, which you may be interested in. Also, Duke’s medical schools is one of the world’s best. Sure, DC has lots of opportunities, but you will need to determine which kind is right for you.
Before anyone tries to convince you either way, visit both schools and see which campus feels right for you. Best of luck!
The internship/networking opportunities in DC for this line of work (as in most) are fantastic, although obviously the Research Triangle is no slouch either. Given your stated interest in neuroscience, you may want to do some exploring around the following, if you haven’t already:

One nice thing about the sciences at Georgetown is that the relative underdevelopment of master’s programs in science means that labwork and research assistance that is provided by masters students elsewhere is often done by undergrads.
