Help! How to report ACT scores if higher score is without writing?

Hi, trying to get some applications out and I have questions relating to the ACT/SAT. D got a 30 on ACT with writing and 31 on ACT without writing (stupid state-mandated test). She didn't do as well on SAT; bombed first time and got a 2020/1310 second time. (which the M + CR correlates to a 29, all three scores together correlate to a 31).

Question, does that 31 do her any good whatsover? She got a perfect score on one section, which colleges will not see, I guess. Do I self-report the 31, and send the 30 with writing to colleges? BU told us this summer they wouldn't even input it into system without writing.

Also, re: the SAT....if only submitting the ACT, do I leave that blank on the self-reporting section of Common APP? Or do you think the SAT/ACT differential is great enough, and I should just send both? Of course, I would like to keep the fees to a minimum to extent possible. She is applying to BC, BU, GWU, USC, Rice, SDS, CU, etc.

Please, anyone? Especially wondering if I leave the SAT blank on the self-reporting line if I am only sending ACT. Probably a stupid question, but I don’t want to cross any “dishonesty” lines. Thanks

If a college requires the W, you would be wasting your money to send the 31 – just as BU told you. OTOH, not all colleges use the W so you can send the 31 to those colleges. But you’ll need to check each website.

For the common app, you can list the highest score (ACT or SAT); you do not have to list both. You can save separate versions of the common app, so you can save and send a version with the 30 and then save and send a version with the 31.

thanks so much! I think I’ll just send the ACT scores and not self-report the SAT then. Do you really think it’s necessary to create seperate CA versions, though? If I self-report both the 31 and the 30, wouldn’t it be apparant by the lack of a writing score that the 31 was w/out writing and thus I am only sending the 30 score with writing? (in that way they can at least see the slightly nicer score, with the 36 in reading, and understand why I am not sending it) Or, is it just a big no-no to self report something that you are not sending?
