HELP! Huge Application Blunder!

I realized after I sent my Yale Supplement Application online today that the supplement essay did not fit in the space provided. This was a huge overlook and I feel really dumb now, is there anything I can do? I am thinking of sending a note and the whole essay (along with a research abstract) by mail, should I do this? Or would you suggest something else? I really hope this doesn't screw me over...

yes, i would.......explain the situation in a letter and mail the essay with the rest of the material.

yes, DEFINITELY. they should be pretty understanding about it. good luck!

you shouldn't feel dumb... the whole preview business w/ online applications isn't very memorable.. lol just send it in w/ the abstract. :)

Thanks, I hope so. My Adobe Acrobat wasn't working too well on my computer so I couldn't preview it before I sent it. But will they be mad that I sent an essay that was over the limit? (I didn't even know it had a limit!)

over the limit as in over 500 words? it shouldn't make that big of a difference, unless it distracts from the overall purpose of the essay. I'm sure almost everyone's essays were over 500 words.

Thanks everyone. I love Yale, and worked very hard on this application, so I really hope one stupid technical malfunction doesn't ruin any chance that I had of getting in.

I'm thinking of e-mailing my regional adcom about this problem... do you think that would be okay?

sounds like a swell idea to me.

Don't worry too much about this. You can contact the regional rep if you want to - especially if you've already talked to him/her. I messed up on my application - I forgot to put the dates of my supplemental testing (PSAT, APs) - and I just sent a note with the corrections on it. It caused no problems. I still worried about it for a week, although after that, I realized that something that small wouldn't affect my outcome. So don't let yourself worry - I'm sure it won't hurt your chances. If anything, it shows you're human - Yale won't hold that against you. ;)

Good luck with your application(s)!

...hmm...my essay is 729...am i pushing it? and can i still send it online without getting truncated?

Alright I sent the entire supplement essay with a note explaining the situation, plus my research abstract from last summer. So I hope that will be enough. I just worry a lot...
