Hi I’m a statistics major and I got admitted to both UC Davis and UC Santa Barbara. I can’t decide which to go to. I am also sort of considering SLO. I just want to know what is best for me. Location wise I do prefer Santa Barbara (I live in a beach town). But I want to know more about campus life, academics and my major. Thanks
I also like the college town life at SLO when I visited during open house.
if you want to be near a beach, Davis is the wrong choice. SB and SLO are both very good schools so, there isn’t a bad decision - so academically, for most programs, they are a wash quality wise. SLO takes a learn by doing approach while SB is more traditional in it instruction - that is particularly true in STEM majors. Other big considerations; Can you thrive among all the chaos that surrounds the SB campus? Will a beach in the line of sight from your dorm and dining common be calming and inspiring or, will it distract you? For me, IV would be fun but, I wouldn’t be able to focus on studying at SB.
The statistics major at slo seems pretty awesome. How does the program compare at SB?
SLO is ranked lower than both UCSB and Davis. I decided to decline admission at SLO because I wasn’t receiving as much financial aid as the UCs (the amount was significant, approx. $20,000 vs $7,000). The aid is for total cost of attendance.
