HELP! I need peace of mind

Greetings, to whomever is reading this

So Friday I started looking at my Cornell options and I am trying to figure out which Courses were best for me: bear in mind that I am a Math/Science person, I do not know if I should major in Genetics or Neuroscience, BUT my definite goal is MEDschool so I know I have to follow the premed track. But I do not want to be single minded and take only math/science courses, because that would be a waste, I mean Cornell has a LOT to offer. So after a few hours of looking at courses this is my current Freshmen fall class schedule:

HIST 1800 - Immigration in U.S. History

LATIN 1201 - Elementary Latin I

MATH 1120 - Calculus II

PE 1385 - Thai Boxing

PHIL 1950 - Controversies About Inequality

I was fine with this class schedule but then I realized I am missing a Science class so I looked at the General Bio courses and found one that, and I quote, "is designed for premed" which obviously lead me to want to take that course. But when I tried to enroll that class (BIOG 1105 - Intro Bio Individual Instructn) was full. At first I was not worried because I know, correction I hoped that during the first week I could go to class and talk to professor and try to get the enrolled. But suddenly I am starting to worry because I intend to major in a Bio related subject and I just feel a sense, of "I must get into that class."

More imminently I feel that I should be taking more Science related classes, so I kinda want to drop either my history or Philosophy class for another science class like chem, physics, etc. But again I do not know if that is the best course of action I should take. I mean, I want to stay true to my ideology of breath but I do have an agenda, so I am unsure of what to do.

Any and all comments/suggestions welcomed.

Thanks

Yes, Cornell does have a lot to offer :p

However, if you’re premed, you really should do at ONE chemistry class and ONE bio class your first semester. You should be able to get into BIOG 1105, but if you have a strong bio background, feel free to take an upperlevel biology class (I recommend BIOMI 2900, microbiology). For your chem class, most likely you’ll take Chem 2070, the standard premed chem class, but there are other options if you have a good chem background. If you’re premed, you can make your schedule however you want, but you really need a bio class and a chem class, or you may fall behind.

Good luck! :)

Gen chem, bio, calc, fws, and PE should be your first semester schedule.

the above schedule is typically the right courses, but not carved in stone.
my own doctor (internist) graduated Cornell’s CAS about 9 years ago and she started out as an english major, not taking any science course until the second half of her sophomore year.
she wound up going to Hopkins for med school - not too shabby.

You can start whenever you want. But, if you’re not planning to take years off, you have to get the MCAT and your prereq’s done by the end of junior year.

also, you can’t major in genetics or neuroscience. you can be a biological sciences major, and then choose either Genetics and Development or Neurobiology and Behavior as your program of study.

You can consider: BIOG 1140 - Foundations of Biology.
It has approx 7 spots left, but at least it’s “bio related.”

It was actually completely full a week ago, mainly because they capped the classrooms at the wrong limit. Now that 30 more seats opened up, not everyone has gone back to check for the bio classes so it has been filling up slower than it has the previous week.

^that course doesn’t fulfill premed requirements. it’s probably better to try to get into premed courses, with ideally a first-semester schedule as similar as possible to what norcalguy suggested.
