Hey guys! For my school I'm involved in a thing for picking a book all my school's students will be reading for summer reading... a lot of you seem to read, so it'd be great to have some suggestions. :) Since everyone including 9th graders and sub-regular level kids will be reading it, it needs to be really simple. I'm aiming for something that has...

simple language...

engaging, interesting plot - enough to make it a breezy enjoyable read

doesn't look intimidating - 300ish pages maybe

I'm leaning toward thriller types... like My Sister's Keeper types (not my favorite, but is lots of others'), though it'd probably have to be shorter than most of Picoult's books. I don't want this year's book to just end up being another icky young adult book, like Speak or Stargirl or Part Time Indian :( (they're all pretty much more DISCRIMINATION IS BAD books). I'm biased against them... they manage to always be so horribly cliche and gooey. Hard to find halfway decent writing or interesting plots in them. But having a good YA book would be nice.

Any picks??? I'm thinking of Replay by Ken Grimmwood right now, but I need a few more...

I just started reading The Lovely Bones, and I think it’s pretty interesting, so far. I mostly started reading it because the movie version is coming out, lol, but that could make it more appealing to people in your school, since the movie’s going to be out soon, they’ll at least know something about it. The language is fairly simple, so far, and it’s not that long…
And the plot is different from most other books, this is the first I’ve read like it.
There are better books though, I just can’t think of them, haha :)

And DEFINITELY do not pick twilight. Although, if you do, all of the girls will fall madly in love with you. Haha.

Halochibi just recommended like half the books I was going to recommend. S/he must have incredible taste But really, Things Fall Apart and *We/i are incredible. Honestly, I think We is the singular dystopian novel worth reading, but I dislike the genre.

The Awakening
Stuff by Haruki Murakami. Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World, at 400 pages, is a bit longer than you wanted, but it’s pretty much two books in one (dual plot, like Anna Karenina, but with less interaction).

I read that when it first came out! Either 5th or 6th grade. It was big then and when adults, who knew the subject, saw little me walking around with it, they looked a little worried.

^^^Lol, I wish I had known about it then! I think I would have enjoyed it more.

But, I feel like I’m one of those people (who typically gets on my nerves!), who is only reading the book because of the movie. But I saw the trailer and was like WHOA, I must read that.

i like the diary of a part time indian did you ever read it? It is really good. Right now, I’m sticking to intense fantasy books.you prob. wouldn’t like them.

so many to pick from:
1)kissed by an angel(romantic but suspensive)
2)stepmother(action and twists the story around,a thriller!keeps ya reading)
3)the trophy wife
4)the perfect sister(crazy book, amazing! she like wants to kill her sister, not sure of the name, written by diana diamond)
