i have NO clue which college to choose! im majoring in science (and kinda geeky) which makes me think of crown. im play tennis and i go to the gym which makes me think of stevenson. i love art and being around creative people, which makes me think of porter. i tend to be considered the "hippie type" out of my friends because im pretty laid back and very liberal which makes me think of kresge. im very open and diverse and well, basically every stereotype rolled into one which pretty much gives me no stereotype... and every college sounds appealing to me... i just dont know what to do. any suggestions? ...please? lol

oh and feel free to talk to me on aim- riphedwigxo

SO guys i had a question? which dorm would be better for me? I'm really into sports and stuff, and i thought the view of stevenson was great when i vistied, but then i also would like to party/ am not a pot head so to speak but enjoy it once and a while? would i be best at Stevenson which is known as the jewish college i guess? or Cowell, which are my two top choices. Also are the people at porter really artsy like the theater type?

Have you looked at the core courses they provide for each college. I mean if you think you might fit all already read the classes and see which you think will benefit you or you might enjoy. That's one of my strategies so I'm hoping. If anyone see this as a BAD idea let me know!!! I'm still confused on this whole core classes system, but I'm checking out the classes. I think it might help a bit.

Also how do you change your college choices once you submitted? I hear a lot of people say you can still change it where do I go to do that?

probably your myUCSC page where you accepted

It sounds like I'm basically just the same as most of you on the last page there.
I'm into video games, meeting people, just chilling out, but I also want to be able to study.
I'm not into the drugs/party scene at all.

I like Cowell because it sounds like it has the most normal/cool people.
Only thing I'm worrying about - is it known for it's partying? Like any more than the others? Because I really want to avoid that.

Crown sounds good because I like video games/am doing a computer science major.
I just don't want to be surrounded by people with no life.

Porter because I like the whole laid back, chill lifestyle. I also like that they have something about a digital media aspect.
But I really am not into drugs at all. I could live with it I suppose, but I want people to respect that I don't want to do it. And honestly, I'm kind of worried that the people will be totally weird. I mean, I like artsy/creative people, but... I dunno.

you and me seem to be in the same page, I'm completely lost too.

I guess I'm in the same boat as you two:

I'm a gamer who wants to be with other gamers, but not with nerds who study ALL the time/have no social life.
I want to have a social life with people in my building...
I want to be able to study when I need to/be able to sleep
I don't want to have a ton of druggies, partiers or preps around, either.

I'm thinking of Crown since I'm going to be a computer game design major and I figure the most gamers would be there. Cowell is starting to appeal to me because it seems to be the most well rounded. I was considering Porter because I like to be artsy sometimes, but I'm worried about it having too many stoners...

I'm guessing there aren't many suggestions, but any would help. Thanks.

Cowell = massive partying?
$%^&. I had made my decision and now I have to rethink it.

vewong, I'm a gamer, and I want a social life, so I'm choosing Porter. I'm also getting the game design major. I honestly think for the most part its the same amount of druggies as anywhere else, i hear its just that people are a lot more open about it at porter. I think me and you would be better off at Porter, theres apparently a gaming scene there, and its not a really quiet college like crown.

Hehe, I am a gamer too and I put Crown as my fourth choice. Like you, I do not want to be around study machines all the time. I am thinking a lot of people coming to UCSC like to do online gaming. I'd bet a nickel you will find a scene in every dorm.

so u guys gonna play console or computer games at UCSC?

Well computer games... I have an xbox360/wii but I probably will not bring them since I doubt there are a lot of console gamers at UCSC... or are there?

yea i'm sure you'll find gamers everywhere no matter what college, im still thinking about cowell/stevenson but i heard the dining hall is under renovation, would it make eating inconvenient?

ya, i want to bring a desktop but my parents insist that it will distract me from studies, so i will bring a laptop. how about you guys? u guys bring ur desktop for gaming?

i'm bring a laptop for notes and stuff, and a desktop for gaming

what game u play? do u play CS:S or Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield 2?

i wonder if there will be enough room for all 3 of us to have a computer in the dorms

Heh. I was actually wondering if there was more console gaming or PC gaming at Santa Cruz...I'm going to try to bring my Wii with me, and I'm hopefully getting a tricked out gaming laptop before I go away for school. Unfortunately, I definitely do not have enough money to get a gaming desktop and a school work laptop...but oh, how I wish.

Anyway, I usually go for Starcraft or WoW (I know, terribly cliche) on PC, but sometimes I stray into CSS or Half-Life. In terms of consoles, I'm a brawl girl.
