If you HATE the smell of marijuana, Kresge is certainly not the college for you.

Just a little bit of info for those considering the "party" colleges.

Obviously, partying leads to puking in some cases....and apparently the janitors aren't liable to clean up after them.....

Someone who lives in Porter told me the bathrooms get really gross because of it.

^ I have found the Janitors at C9 to be really really nice. The woman who takes care of my building has cleaned up some gruesome stuff, and she did not even file a report/complaint. Basically, if there is vomit, feces, etc...the cleaning lady can report it and the floor gets a slap by the RA. We still know about the gross messes, but the lady is yet to put out a complaint. That is one nice thing about C9/C10, the bathrooms are new and very big, and often clean relative to other bathrooms at the other colleges within UCSC.

Porter sounds great, and from what I've heard no matter where you go, there are drugs available if you really want them, so i'm not too worried about the drug scene there. It's either that or Kresge (i want to be some sort of writing major) but i don't really want the apts so maybe Cowell? idk. it's exciting though isn't it? =]

This may be a stupid question, but if someone is transferring from a CCC and will be living off-campus in Santa Cruz, does it even matter which college they select on their application? Let me know what I need to consider come this July when I apply.

I don’t believe so. There’s probably some kind of option for “I will be living off campus”.
I’ve read a couple of times that “students remain affiliated with their college for all 4 years”, so I assume that means even if you’re living off-campus, you are somehow connected to a college. Why? Who knows. But if you do have to select a college, that is probably why.

I am still not sure that i want to attend UCSC (mostly because lack of partying and social factor) but ill do this just for fun, to see if i only get into ucsc what i would want to join.

I:
love partying
love meeting new girls
surf
am white
have a lot of confidence in my appearance and humor
have tons of friends
rap
listen to rap, techno, hardcore, deathmetal, ambient, and many other music genres
and pretty much consider myself the most awesome person in the world

Soo, what we be the best choice for me? if not a frat house, because i know the founder of one of them and im considering joining if i go to ucsc.

Thanks!

Best choice for you? I’d say UCSB. ;)

hey im have been thinking about college alot seeing that i am in my jr year
and the one i like the most is ucsc
but what college should i stay in

im black
like all kinds of music
like art
sometimes a computer nerd
would love to live by the best food
and want some place with nice bathrooms(and no rats eeewwww!!!)

soooo where sould i go

No place has rats, except maybe the Village (but I highly doubt that).
Sounds like you’d fit in anywhere really…Porter if you really like art, plus their dorms and dining hall will be brand new. Oakes is really relaxed and fun, at least in my experience.

thanks for the info

i agree with banana slug you’ll fit in anywhere but if you like art you should choose porter however the only dining hall near right now is college 8/oakes and it the worst dining hall on campus but probably by the time you come here porter/kresge will be done and it’ll be all brand new.

haha im revisiting this thread again (:
i still can’t decide which college to choose though :T does the acceptance package come with all the info about each housing?
and so it’s really true that colleges 9 & 10 are the “asian” colleges?
anddd is college 10 better than 9 because it’s newer?
thanks!

I live at c9 and never felt like I was part of an “asian college.” C9 and C10 are basically identical, so choose them by which core topic you want.

Hahaha I always thought it was so strange how people called c910 the “asian” college and stevenson was the “jewish” college. Where do these stereotypes come from?? so silly :)

@Barnaby and Liesel
Your college provides general academic advising, there is no big central academic advising office. Colleges also host student-affiliated-only events such as college nights (free food!) and trips. Graduation commencement is also based by college affiliation, there is no big university wide graduation, although some departments also have commencement events.

However, for transfer students planning on living off campus, the choice of college isn’t super important as you won’t be denied any classes or required to take any college-only classes (unlike froshers who have to take a college based core course).

How about me? I’m really into music (making my own) and art in general. I like humor and am pretty open to drugs and experimentation and have a soft spot for anything avant-garde.

@africa4tehn- Porter.

hmmm anyone from stevenson? im been considering it and i thought the “outdoor adventure house” sounded pretty cool. any opinions? and stevenson is coed floors right?

anyone knows which college has the most international students, or… let me put it this way ; i’m persian, any idea of which college has the most persian students because i know there are alot of them there.
