Help Me Choose Which Colleges to Apply To

I am really confused about where to even begin applying? I want to become a pharmacist and don’t care if the school is in state or out of state. Can someone just give me a couple schools that would most likely accept me? Thank you so much. I know there are other things that matter in the admissions process but please try to help me by giving a couple schools names that I should consider applying to

Here are my stats:

3.4 gpa, 1800 SAT (taking again in October), 200+ community service hours *I am also in the stem (science and technology) program at my school

Ap’s: Ap chem. Ap gov, Ap physics, Ap human geo, Ap calc, Ap Lang, Ap Bio, Ap organic chemistry

Extracurricular:
Cross country
Journalism (editor)
Model United Nations
HOSA
Environmental Club
Dance Team
Recycling Club (president)

What are your parents saying about how much they’ll spend on college?

Is that your weighted GPA?

What grades have you been getting in sciences and math?

What is in-state for you and what is your intended major?

@mom2collegekids Probably 35,000 max and yes that is my weighted GPA. I have A’s and B’s in math and sciences.

@Gumbymom University of Maryland is in state for me but I’m afraid I have a tough chance getting in and my intended major is either biology or pre pharmacy

In-state is your best bet. Public: UMD-CP, UMD-BC, St. Mary’s College, Salisbury, Towson. Private: have a look at Goucher College, but run the Net Price Calculator for affordability: https://npc.collegeboard.org/student/app/goucher.

There isn’t a safety for you in that group of schools, and you need one.

What is your unweighted GPA? That matters, especially if you have been getting unremarkable grades in the STEM fields.

Also, there is no AP organic chemistry. If you want help, you might as well be honest about what classes you actually have taken. Are your “A’s and B’s” the weighted AP grades or does your transcript actually have all A’s and B’s on it.

Try UC and Cal State schools, there are many good science programs. Keep some reach schools, some middle, and some back up. You can also try using schoolinks.com to try to match you with the best schools for your stats.
Good Luck

OP, your Stats are not competitive enough for the majority of the UC’s. If interested, look at UC Merced, Riverside and Santa Cruz. For Cal states, CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, Sac State, San Francisco State could be some options.
Also calculate your UC/CSU GPA: http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Also if you are not in-state, expect to pay around $55K+/year to attend a UC and around $35K/year for a Cal State. Little to no financial aid available for OOS applicants.

@Dunboyne What do you mean by “safety”? And thanks for your response!
@biochemgirl67 At my school Organic chemistry is weighted as an AP course. And yes my transcript acutally has A’s and B’s on it.

The purpose of a safety is to ensure that you have at least one school to attend if you get denied from all others on your list.

A safety is a school where you have a 100% chance of admission (certain), or reasonably close to certain. ‘Certain’ admission can occur at a school that offers automatic admission based on stats. ‘Reasonably close to certain’ admission must be estimated by comparing your stats against the stats of the latest pool of enrollees.

A safety must be 100% affordable, too. You can’t guess or make assumptions about affordability – you need to crunch the numbers. If the school is unaffordable, you don’t have a safety. (Every school on your list should be affordable. Discuss finances with your family, and run the Net Price Calculators found in the financial aid section of each school’s website.)

A safety must be likable enough for you to want to attend, too. If you can’t bring yourself to enrolling, if it comes down to it, then you don’t have a safety.
