Academically, no matter what the field, UF beats FSU hands down. Don't let the #1 party school crap skew your opinion of UF. Most people there work very hard. I CANNOT say the same for those at FSU. I think they party just as much, and study 10x less than those at UF. (I have >10 friends at both schools, and I talk to them regularly.) I also visit tallahassee at least once a month just to party with my friends from high school. Only one of them actually goes to class regularly and even she sometimes skips when she feels like it because it is "pointless"

Edit: I wouldn't even consider UCF. I agree with the "high school round 2" idea of it. They also are probably even less serious about school than FSU student. Basically, if you have the grades to go to UF - GO!

I can name plenty of programs were FSU beats UF hands down. Political science, criminology, hospitality, entrepreneurship, creative writing, film, arts, real state, risk management, information, music, family medicine, law etc... Should I go on?

If Tallahassee is "rural" what does that make Gainesville, a truck stop in central Florida? There's a reason why Gainesville used to be called Hogtown. Also, UF used to be officially called Florida Agricultural College at one point. It doesn't get more backwoods than a former agricultural school.

By the way, UF is currently ranked #1 for party schools and for students who study the least. That's the national perception of UF, weather you like it or not.

Next time, do a little research instead of posting hearsay and made-up stories.

I want to be a criminal prosecutor and also study CW and film. So looks like FSU might be better, if this is true.

How rural is Gainseville? Is it just a large town as opposed to a city, or is it actually in the middle of nowhere?

I'd call Gainesville a small city. I'm a student at UF right now, and one of my main concerns was the size of the place and whether or not I'd want to kill myself out of boredom. Luckily, that wasn't the case. Yeah, Gainesville isn't as huge as some of the places in Florida, but everything here is directed at the 18-25 age group. There are plenty of clubs, tons of restaurants (both locally-owned and large chains), a few movie theaters, a really really nice mall, bookstores, boutiques, and plenty of other things to keep college students busy. Outside of Gainesville, there isn't much, but there's enough here to keep you entertained and busy.

For creative writing and film, FSU is the best choice in the entire southeast, not just the state. Their Film School is top 5 and the C.W. program is top 10, in the entire country. FSU's and UF's law schools are pretty comparable, even though FSU's is tougher to get in to. Tallahassee also offers many more opportunities for internships in law and government.

FSU I think has the better programs for your majors. I know people who go to both schools, and both provided decent arguments for why I should attend either. UCF is very much more high school round 2 than FSU or UF, but they aren't that much better. At least for me I know 30-40 people that attend all 3, so I would have likely ended up hanging out with a lot of the same people unless I joined some club or rushed. That's why I ended up at Rollins in Orlando, a completely new set of people and much smaller classes and personal attention. Our pre-law program has decent matriculation rates, but I would definitely recommend FSU especially for criminal justice.

I don't know anything about NCF so I can't comment on that.

Tallahassee Rural!!??? That is the funniest thing I have read on here in a long time! It's the state capitol and the home of two major universities for heavens sake! UF seems to be the top school of choice in the state but FSU isn't far behind.

Thanks, I got accepted to FSU! Not sure if I mentioned it already on this thread so sorry if I already did lol..
What do you guys mean by "HS Round 2"? Even at someplace like UCF, you don't have a 7-period-a-day schedule, you don't have obnoxious HS rules about shirt strap width, leaving campus for lunch, etc. Also you don't live in your parents' house so you don't have curfews and parents' rules...so what is it about the high school round 2 places that makes it like high school?
