Help me convince my parents!

Preface: I got deferred from my ED school and figured that the main way that I would try to get passed this was by raising my second quarter grades. I had really good grades first quarter, and was trying to raise them by another 1-2 (100 scale). Obviously this would also help with all of my college apps.

Anyway, I fortunately pretty much succeeded in doing this, and will raise my grade by about 1.5 points. Except for gym. My moronic self somehow botched gym, and I may (worst case) end up with low 80s, high 70s, or best case end up with low 90s. Either way it’s a drop from my first quarter, and the lowest I’ve ever received.

Even though gym counts as 25% of any other class, this would tank any benefits to my grade from my other strong grades, and would bring my GPA down incredibly. Obviously if admissions officers see my grades themselves, they’ll see that I’m doing very well and better than the first quarter. But, my GPA will show a decent decrease.

I think that this isn’t a fantastic situation, but colleges won’t be all that phased. I think that it’s obviously not better than having just done well in gym, but that I’ll still be fine. I’m under the impression that they understand modern-day gym for what it is (a joke), and don’t give it really much weight at all. I mean I know some colleges recalculate and actually exclude gym.

What do you all think? Will I be alright? I know it sounds crappy, but I really don’t care about gym that much. Not to be an ass, but I’m literally a state-champion athlete, and just wanted to focus on my important grades (I would just spend gym doing the hw I didn’t do the night before for the next period).

Any responses would be great; if admissions officers/counselors/advisors could respond too that’d be fantastic, to have a key perspective.

Thanks!

That is my impression also. I don’t think that this will matter as long as your grades and attendance in gym is sufficient for your to get your high school diploma at the end of the year.

Are your university applications all sent in? Do you have a couple of solid safeties on your list? If so I would say don’t worry about it and expect some acceptances and possibly a rejection or two to start rolling in.

By the way, I see from another thread that you did a four-week immersive french language program in Quebec. What did you think of this?

You use the word “obviously” a lot, and your usage is incorrect.

No, this is not at all obvious. A change of 1-2 percent is akin to a pimple on an elephant’s butt. It will not impact your final decisions.

Well, then you’re lucky to get the grade you will get. Try that strategy in your math class and see what happens.

Anyway, you’re right, your gym grade is less important than an academic grade, as long as you pass. But even in a core subject, one B is not a make-or-break.

Thanks! The program was absolutely amazing, and I’d wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone and everyone. It’s great for people at all levels of proficency. I believe the program has actually been eliminated in Quebec, and is now somewhere in the south of France. Still a fantastic program though, if not even potentially better!
