what now....got D in gym...

I got my report card, got decent grades, but i got a D in gym.

I know colleges only look at academic courses, but I think my gym grade still shows up on the transcript (along with BOTH general and prep GPA)

However, with my prep gpa, I am in top 10% or 20% for in my Junior grade.

Would colleges budge about my gym grade...?

This will drop your GPA and will not look all that great, but it won't totally put you out of the running...How do you get a D? At most schools, you get an A if you at least put some effort in each day.

Um...what grade are you in? Can you bring it up by the end of the year?

And if don't think this is offensive: how did you manage a D in gym?

If you bring gym clothes and dress in them each day... or some of them for that matter... you get an A. (at my school)

Heck.. most gym teachers would just give you an A for that matter.

Well. I cut many times, not changed, and did not participate that much.
It sounds extremely absurd, but I felt very lucky that I got a D because I thought I failed.

Why are you cutting gym? It's not that bad, is it?

Oomso, you asked for your grade. Any consequences thereafter, low GPA, rejection from any college you possibly want to attend, is your fault. Now, I doubt a D will get you rejected from college, but it certainly doesn't help and you won't know whether that D was the cutting factor or not. Sorry, but you slacked off way too much.

:( You shouldn't have cut. What's wrong with changing? If you are so self-concious, you could have changed in a stall in private.

A little effort won't kill you. You can just walk around during a game like basketball and pretend you are doing something at least.

Sadly... I think them seeing it on the transcript will be negative to your chances of acceptance. However, don't lose hope. People often find the best in the worst of times.

you lose some fat/gain some muscle and try again next term.

oh man
i was deluded by the myth that colleges dont care about non-academic courses
damn it !

Colleges look at you as a whole. Besides, your GPA and class rank take into account ALL courses taken.

well for my school
we only use academic courses as a prep gpa, which account into class rank as well

i never thought grades in non-academics would show up on the transcript

damn... ruined my life ...

Any grade you ever receive is suppose to show up on your transcript.

depends where you applied. At UCLA and Cal they can rescind you if you get any grade below a C senior year. At many other colleges, it may raise questions.

Are you a junior? If so, find a physical activity you can live with and take a PE class at your local CC this summer. It won't help your high school GPA, but you can at least show that you were determined to make up for your poor performance. I would also apologize to the gym teacher, beg for forgiveness, and ask if you can do anything to get that grade changed to a C. (Is there a reason you did not want to dress out? If you can elicit some sympathy due to a personal problem -like body image problems, anxiety over sports, etc.- perhaps help will be available.) Offer to come in and run every day or whatever they want to get the grade changed. The problem with this grade is it indicates a lack of effort and a questionable attitude.

PE...pfff. seriously. is there a rational reason for this grade? possible injury?

They will probably calculate your GPA without the Gym class.

I got a B in gym one year...we told the teacher that we didn't have enough time to dress in and that we were constantly late to class..so he said we could just wear our uniforms and as long as we participated we would get an A. He lied.

No no there are no reasons.
If there is one, I just slacked off, honestly. That's all reason for why I flunked my Gym class.
I'll just try my best of the best for next two quaters and try to outperform the standardized test to compensate with "D".
Thank you all for your responses.

This post is really sad. I hope colleges make "exercising" mandatory for you lol.
