help me decide: union or dickinson?

Hello my name is Sam and I am a high school junior at a competitive private high school...I loved Dickinson College and Union College when I visited, but I can't decide between the two. I am very interested in studying spanish probably with business, if that helps...Btw my counselor says that these are my matches (not safeties, but not reaches duh)...the town for dickinson is small, but its like in the town, small, but nice which is cool...union is in kind of a crappy town, but its near skiing in vermont and 45 minutes from my grandparents house, so yeah im trying to decide where for ED...

Dickinson would be my choice if my focus was Spanish. They have a very strong reputation and focus on international studies. Union would probably be my choice for business, they have a pretty strong alumni network. They are both strong and enjoy equal academic reputations. Union may have a more “party” atmosphere of the 2. If your grades are strong enough, you may want to consider Bucknell. They are a perfect combination of both schools but more selective. Good luck to you!

I forgot one other possible consideration. Union is on a trimester system while I believe Dickinson is on the traditional semester system. Personally, I thrived under a trimester system but others prefer a traditional system. The one downside to trimesters, though, is your school year ends a little later, which some people think can impact summer employment opportunities.

Cost not considered, then I’d say Dickinson. I loved Dickinson but it was wayyy to expensive considering it’s strength of program in my field of interest.

Dickinson is such a cool school with a really strong international focus. It also seems to have a very emotionally healthy, heterogenous student body.

well yeah i looked at bucknell which would have been a reach, but i didn’t really like it, it felt like union without the minervas, like i would be alone if not in a frat…i already know about the great academic stuff at dickinson, but what is there to do? i didn’t feel much of a social vibe to it, since i’m not really a nerd or a fratty, like in between  i loved the brand new science buildings at both schools… thanks for the help…btw raiderade: what field are you interested in?..

bump…

btw thanks you’ll for being the only people to ever respond to my posts  really it’s great :)

How many times did you post the same topic? I found at least three!

lol well not many people answer lol and i want alot of answers :)

Just keep bumping one of the threads instead of creating new ones. Also, most of your comments in the 3 threads you have created on this topic indicate a preference on your part for Union so why keep asking the question? It sounds like you prefer Union. Just post questions in their forum.

thanks bobby u guys have been really helpful!!! i was wondering could you chance me? my stats are on another one of my questions as u probably already know lol :)

The best and most accurate information regarding your chance of admission to Union, or any other college, is to check their most recent Common Data Set. Go to the Union web site and search for 2010-2011 Common Data Set. Section C will give you a breakdown of the grades, test scores, etc. of the applicants. It is a great resource. The Common Data Set provides an immense amount of specific additional information including what factors Admissions considers most important, class sizes, financial aid awards, etc.

I have several close friends that have kids currently attending Union and they love it.

yeah im not really sure it says there average gpa is a 3.5!

I personally think that if you can’t decide, then you should not apply ED. You want to be completely sure of yourself if you’re applying ED. If not, then you should probably just wait and apply to both RD.
