HELP ME DECIDE! UT-Austin VS UW-Madison??

So I'm doing Chemical Engineering and have narrowed down my schools to these two.

I've been thinking about it for weeks and can't seem to decide which one to commit to...so far the only difference that I can think of is the weather...and I'm fine with both (extreme cold vs extreme heat) As for the academics...they're both ranked next to each other in the top 10 Chem Eng. programs so there's not much difference in that either...

So now I'm looking for advice on which institution I attend...like, what makes UT-Austin such an awesome school (and if possible, IN COMPARISON to UW...)?

Thanks, :}

Also, take out the aspect of cost too!

Texas>Wisconsin

That is all.

Many more job opportunities for ChE’s in Texas than in Wisconsin (and midwest). Texas companies are more likely to hire UT grads than Wisconsin grads due to proximity and familiarity with UT ChE program.

Maybe you should get advice on a different forum due to some SERIOUS bias.

i ended up deciding between UW and UT as well and i ended up choosing UT. although i liked the wisconsin campus better UT academics far outwiegh that in UW. as well, there is a bigger network in texas. But the decision is up to you! good luck! :)

I actually met some guys from the the UW rugby team on 6th street last weekend who were in town for a game against UT. They said it was crazy how Austin and Madison are like the exact same town, except Austin is a bit bigger and has more of a downtown (I’ve never been to Madison, so can’t say for myself). To be honest, you probably won’t regret either choice, but as I’ve bled burnt orange since I was a small child, I say Hook 'em, come to Texas! Plus, as the other posters have said, there are a lot of industries in Texas that rely on Chem E.

UT definitely has a slight edge over Wisconsin.

After three years in Madison I moved to Austin. After three years in Austin I bought a house.

UT > UWisconsin

My husband got his BS at UW and his MS at Texas. He liked both schools. You might want to take into consideration the weather - winters in Madison are bitterly cold (much colder than coastal Maine, where we live now). UW’s campus IS beautiful, but it is spread out and hilly. I think it would be hard to navigate in February.

Chemical engineers are incredibly high in demand here in Texas. :)
