Hello Everyone,
Im a senior from chapel hill who has been accepted into: university of Pittsburgh and Allegheny and am awaiting decisions from university of Toronto, Lehigh, Emory and William and Mary. I don’t care too greatly about location, mores about academic opportunities. I am interested in molecular biology with a focus on genetics, and was hoping you all could give me some pros and cons of each school on my list.
As far as stats
SAT:1500
ACT:33
GPA: 5.0 (3.8 UW)
I was wait listed at Tulane, but if you guys follow what has been happening with their admissions I’m not too bummed about it. I am hoping to get into 2 out of 4 (or more) of the schools I’m still waiting to hear from. I would love advice!!!
btw, I’m not looking for you guys to pick a college for me, but I would be very grateful to maybe found out stuff about the schools I did not already know.
Also, I am a student with a 504 who struggles greatly with ADHD, and also have anxiety and panic attacks, so maybe you guys could consider that as far as the best environment for me.
I think Emory would be the perfect fit if you get in, it’s not too big or too small and they have great programs!!!
Are all of these schools affordable?
Allegheny strikes me as the best option on your list for someone interested in biology and with anxiety. It’s a small, nurturing school with terrific science programs. You won’t have to compete with grad students for research opportunities, and classes are smaller than at most of your other options.
Emory if you get in, Allegheny otherwise. Allegheny will be the last supportive.
My anxiety isn’t too bad. Im on medication and have it under control pretty well. Thank you guys for helping me find supportive environments. I find out from emory today at 6
*will be the MOST supportive (Allegheny)
Let know what Emory says! Fingers crossed.
@MYOS1634 I was outright rejected from the college of arts and sciences at Emory. I completely understand though, the applicants this year were amazing. I find out from William and Mary and Lehigh this evening, and the whole toronto situation is a mess right now. Thankyou for being so nice. Its great having people who want you to succeed.
@MYOS1634 Yeah my mom is on the board of trustees at Allegheny so that might be something. Also, I received the trustee scholarship for 120,000 dollars which is amazing. I think It would be a great learning environment, and my aunt uncle cousins and grandma live in pittsburgh, but MEADVILLE is the hardest thing to get past, along with having to explain to everyone what the school is.
what’s happening with tulane’s admissions?
Any scholarship award from the University of Pittsburgh ?
10,000 a year. Funny story with that one. On my initial application I accidentally checked the African American box on top of the Caucasian box and was awarded a full ride. Once I realized, I had to call and get it taken from me, and it was later changed to 40,000 for four years from 120,000 for four years
@citymama9 it’s hard to explain. On top of acceptance rate dropping from 25% to %17 percent, the admissions office decided to release hundreds if not thousands of waitlist decisions on their own without any rejection or acceptance letters.
Yes, they have special diceristy funds to encourage high profile minority candidates to choose them rather than private colleges.
I think Allegheny is a wonderful choice but what happened to W&M, Lehigh?
@MYOS1634 I was waitlisted at Tulane, Lehigh and William and Mary, rejected at Emory.
Ok, so your best choice is Allegheny, right?
@MYOS1634 no I’m actually deciding between University of Toronto and University of Pittsburgh. Im not interested in Allegheny
