Help me decorate this corner on my counter in my dining area

I knew it!!!

I am so glad you showed us your junk drawer, because it inspired me to take a pic of mine. And this post is now awesome, because I just found the long lost tape measure I’ve been looking for. :clap:t3: (Can you find it in this mess? )

We should start a whole thread about kitchen junk drawers. With pictures.

I think there is plenty to the left of that counter….if you add something, putting it nearer to the cabinet would be better. Now that I see the glass table and glassware….maybe something glass would be better…this might be too corny but you could fill them with different things to add color. And change as often as you wanted to.

I would add some color. A silk orchid or a pretty colored glass bowl would give a little pop to the space.

You totally need to make a junk drawer thread. Seriously!

Ok!

@Hoggirl , whatever you choose, please choose a solution that makes you happy - each time you see it. Not something that just “does the job”.

I still think the corner is screaming for a green plant - real or not. Or a tall vase with real or not greenery or flowers. Especially after seeing more of the room.

I have always thought something in the middle of the dining table unless useful just ends up being something to be dusted or to be moved each time you eat there.

If we start a junk drawer thread, what if my junk drawer is not presentable? Can we promise not to judge? :scream:

I started one and I’m totally judging! Lol

I’m for big orchid plant there. Nothing else, clean, sophisticated and a pop of color. Nothing on the walls left or right…

Big plus one on that. Because the place does not get a lot of sunlight, a fake orchid would work better than a real one. No concerns with fading, so it will last.

Speaking of the window, I like the shutters.

I vote for the fake orchid too…because honestly, many look very real, and are low maintenance. I have one orchid in my kitchen. I like it when it has flowers, but it doesn’t always have flowers. A fake one will.

Perhaps a tall vase with glass flowers? I saw a lovely vase on Wayfair that would fit a coastal concept. Or with silk flowers, you could change them out with the seasons.

The drawings are my favorite!!!

So, where does one find a good quality, fake orchid. I just got back from HomeGoods - just knocking around and looking for ideas. Didn’t buy a thing. Their fake orchids looked terrible to me.

What would the proper, overall height be? For the 50” I have?

Are there any smaller stores near you that feature the work of local artists? Or craft fairs? Small museums that sell items? I’d check those out and see what draws your eye. That way you’d have something unique that you really love and reflects your local area.

Some not too far away. Just need to make the time to go look.

I would try to go at least 30" and preferably higher. High quality faux flowers can get quite pricy. Some taller orchids and other ideas:

I like all these ideas except the orchid encased in glass. I see what your dh is saying about sterile (though I like things tidy too!), and I think the one inside the glass is more of the same. You need something more organic, less structured. That’s why everyone keeps saying plants or flowers or fruit … something “alive” or pretending to be. But your room is lovely!

This didn’t need to be a reply to Marilyn, more for @Hoggirl

I agree that something less sterile is very important.

@Hoggirl do you have a favorite florist or a florist that has sort of a gift shop of items in their shop? They may actually have some faux choices there or could help you troubleshoot. They often have beautiful vessels for flowers that are not over the top expensive and may even arrange faux flowers. You might be able to get something just for you!

There must be someone on CC handling an estate that has an oblong glass or crystal bowl you could fill with shells and put right in the middle under the window

A tall thin vintage glass vase. Look on ebay. There are hundreds in every color you could imagine and in every price range. Carnival glass, Fenton glass, Viking, Blenko. One of the midcentury types with the fluted tops in red, gold or green would look great.

Since you are near the beach, a large sea shell suspended on a brass display stand. Alternatively, a tall clear glass cylinder filled with colorful sea shells and sand.
