Help me find a school for my picky friend!

My friend is looking for a small LAC with very little drinking and partying and no sports (or very little emphasis on just a few sports). He balks at every school I mention, either it's too hard (St. John's College), all male (Deep Springs), or just off for him. Wellesley actually has everything he's looking for, but it is, of course, all female. So basically, I'm looking for a male version of Wellesley.

He goes to a very highly ranked public, almost always in Newsweek's top 10.
He lives in Virginia and wouldn't mind a school close to home.
I forget some of his stats but I know the ranges. His GPA is between 3.5 and 3.7 and his SAT scores are around 1900. He has no AP scores to report as of yet, but is currently taking APUSH and expects a 3 or 4. So he's not shooting for Harvard or anything like that, but I'm just looking for schools of all tiers that suit him.

Pomona or Claremont McKenna in the Claremont Consortium?

He can try William & Mary as a reach or Occidental College (but it’s in LA).

Marlboro College in Vermont?

I’ve heard the claremonts (maybe not HMC) like to party a lot, so look into that before you suggest them to your friends.

Maybe suggest Creighton or University of Washington, Seattle, or UC San Diego.

I disagree. My sister when to one of the Claremont colleges and they definitely don’t have an intense party scene.

For your friend, I would recommend Whitman, Grinnell, American U, and I second Occidental.

His scores are on the lowish end for Grinnell. He might want to look at Rhodes College in Memphis.

What about University of Mary Washington? There are no frats, and they have t-shirts saying their football team is undefeated (it’s a joke–they don’t have a football team!). I’m guessing he’s in Fairfax County, so it’s a straight shot down I-95. Close to home, but not too close.

Haverford?

These are all reaches, but… Swarthmore, Haverford, Pomona, Carleton, Grinnell, Macalester, and Reed. They are all “hard,” but so is Wellesley.

Rhodes is an insipired recommendation.

Rhodes, Sewanee, Centre

I don’t recommend Reed if the OP’s friend wants un-party/drink/drugs places. Reed definitely has its reasons for giving freedom to students, but that has resulted in a notably liberal environment.

nooob: UW-Seattle & UCSD are clearly bad choices for someone wanting a small LAC…just throwing that out there.

Thanks you guys!
