Help Me Find An East Asian Studies College!

Hey internet,

I am a current junior in high school and have just begun looking up colleges (Yes I know I am quite late). I really love history, foreign policy, and the East Asian languages. I specifically want to study the history and government aspect of the East Asian countries rather than the cultural and linguistical stuff though… and I had a hard time finding this. Please help!

For some initial ideas, you can search for “20 Best Value Small Colleges for an Asian Studies Degree.”

Regarding your stated interests, the historical and cultural aspects of Asian Studies would by necessity overlap.

I’m sorry if I misunderstood. I was thinking you wanted an immersive in east Asia experience. Agree with @merc81

A lot depends on your stats and what you can afford. Have you taken the SAT/ACT?

It should be noted that universities shine in the humanities. Courses in area studies departments are typically very small even at the largest universities, and you’ll find far more breadth and depth in course offerings at a university like Cornell than any LAC (especially languages). Quite a few of the LACs in that list do not even offer Korean, let alone Thai or Vietnamese.

Are you a boy or a girl?

@rosered55 @warblersrule I have taken the SAT and ACT and have gotten high scores on both. I am a male

UW-Madison is good in history, poli sci, international relations, and East Asian studies. http://eastasia.wisc.edu/

Take a look at the course catalog for Tufts. They used to have some heavy hitters on their faculty in this area. Not sure if it still does. You can get a nice balance of political science and history with an East Asia focus in their IR program.
