Help me find more match schools please? =)

I'm an African American (URM!) male from SoCal living in a single-parent, low income household. I will be a senior in the fall.

I plan on being a business major.

Stats:
- Cumulative GPA: 3.44 (RL issues freshman and sophomore year; I'll elaborate on my applications. Everyone says I have "a story to tell." Junior year GPA: 3.64) Senior year GPA first semester will be a 4.0-4.2. I'm pretty much top 20-25%.
- ACT: 27 & didn't study. Retaking and hoping for a 31.
- 4 honors courses and 1 AP course - all math classes; taking Honors Precalculus and AP Statistics for senior year. I've taken Public Speaking and Spanish III at my local Community College and earned A's in both; taking Introduction to Business this summer. My school does not offer many APs at all except for English and History.
- I've been a professional actor with an agent since I was 5 1/2 months old. Since then I've established a pretty long resume and been in numerous TV shows, commercials, billboards, print ads, etc. I have an agent and am currently on the IMDB website.
- I'm in NHS and CSF.
- I've been part of a Church youth group since I was about 3 that goes out to witness to the homeless and people in poverty-stricken communities.
- I've been in a ton of church plays and musicals.
- Will have great essays and recommendations.

So far, this is my college list. Majority of the schools are out of my league, I'm sure.

USC (first most realistic choice)
UVA
UPenn
Boston College
Notre Dame
UCB
Penn State
Stanford (being forced)
Harvard (being forced)
UCLA
ASU (safety)
UMich

What schools can I add to this list that are more in my range? Not into LACs at all. I'm into the schools with big division I sports and prestige as well, but I know that not all colleges offer both of those. UMich is ideal, but I know how hard it is getting in OOS (especially needing financial aid).

Indiana University has a great business program and I’d say you are a match with those stats. Also, their business school just got a couple of big donations on the condition that they increase urm’s in their b-school, so you could probably grab some scholarship money as well.

Look into the Morill Scholars Program at The Ohio State University. Your URM status, family income, and GPA/ACT scores could potentially qualify you for their highest scholarship, which includes out-of-state tuition, room and board, books, and other miscellaneous fees. Definitely an excellent deal if finances are tight, as I assume they are for you and your family.

I’m not well-versed in college athletics, but I think that OSU is pretty popular sports-wise?

That might be something to look into.
Is there a page that offers a list of minority scholarships at different universities?

Bump bump bump.

And if the middle 50 percentile at a school for the ACT is (let’s say) 28-31, is a 27 low even for a URM?

NYU
Wake Forest
Villanova

I’ve heard that NYU isn’t the greatest with financial aid, otherwise I’d apply there without a second thought.
Not too big of a fan of Wake Forest or Villanova. I’ll look into them though.

Anyone have an answer to my question in post #5?

If you’re interested in BC, maybe you can add Boston U or Northeastern to this list. It seems like you’re willing to go anywhere in the US. Maybe UT Austin, University of Washington, University of Oregon…any big state school might suit you. I’m not sure how these schools are in terms of their business programs, so google the top business programs and pick your favorite schools from that list.

I agree with UT Austin, and I would add UNC (though it might be a bit of a reach, even with URM status). Also maybe Florida.

^^ Realize that coming from out of state you will not get much aid from either school.

Ohio State was a good recommendation but may have the same problem giving aid. And I would say that being in the bottom 25% for standardized scores is low, even for a URM.

Yeah, I was interested in UT Austin until I found out about Texas’ (lame) top 10% rule which leaves very little space for OOS applicants.
UNC is definitely too difficult… especially from OOS.

Erin’s Dad - doesn’t this ([OSU Office of Minority Affairs | Morrill Scholars Program](http://oma.osu.edu/future-students/morrill-scholars-program/morrill-scholars-program.php)) mean that even as an OOS applicant, OSU will grant majority of tuition?

You should definately apply to some more UC schools as $$$ safeties.

OP, These are more competitive than the minimum would make you think. Here are some stats from a winner two years ago:
“I had a 3.99 uw GPA, 2nd in my class (2nd to my girlfriend…hahaha), 33 ACT, very strong ec’s and a good interview”

Here are stats from one who did not make it:
“GPA: 4.60 (Weighted-7th Semester) 3.98 (Unweighted)
Class Ranking: 9th / 895 students - Top 1%
ACT/SAT: ACT > 30 SAT > 1280”
