I’m freaking out and cannot decide what colleges to apply to. I’m from a smaller town in NC and i’ve taken the most challenging courses including many APs that my school offers. My GPA is a 4.91 weighted and 4.00 unweighted. SAT 1450 and ACT composite 32 (28 math, 31 science, 31 english, 36 reading) but i’m taking the ACT again. My ECs are:
Cross country/track/indoor track runner in 9th and 10th grade
Student Council 10-12th grade, 11th grade class treasurer and 12th grade class vp
Juniorettes (service club) 10th-12th grade. 11th grade class representative and 12th grade vp
Peer tutoring -10th grade
Various volunteer hours but not too impressive
NHS/NSHS member
Junior Marshall (top 30 in class that helps w graduation and senior day and night)
3 Mission trips
AP scholar award
class rank: 4/500
i’m looking at NC state, UNC chapel hill, duke, wake forest, uva, but i’m not in love and considering anywhere. please help
side note: i grew up on a farm, is this unique/will it help me get in anywhere?
Your stats and ECs are great. If I were you, I’d apply to some ivies (if you don’t mind being far away from home). You have a shot at getting in. How about Georgetown, George Washington, and Vanderbilt?
Try not to freak out too much…I’m also a freaked out senior, by the way. Good luck
Good stats and ECs! In all honesty, you won’t get into an Ivy so I wouldn’t recommend trying unless there’s one you really want to get into and then you should apply ED to have a shot.
Financial considerations? That’s important, especially if you go out of state.
You have great in-state options in NC, so that’s a good place to start.
Right now, your test scores aren’t competitive for an Ivy.
Duke and UVA are reaches.
Your rank is very good.
What is your major and career goal?
What are your parents saying about how much they’ll pay? Have they ran the NPCs?
If your family still owns a farm, then that may mean that you won’t get aid because of how CSS profile schools will assess the land and farm equipment and farm value.
What schools are your financial safeties? Those are schools that you know that you have all costs covered?
If your family can’t pay full price, then apply to some schools where your stats will FOR SURE get you large merit.
Academic interests are most like math/statistics or business. i’m still pretty indecisive though??
Nope no more farm. My parents are divorced and I live with my mom only, however my grandparents are paying for my college education so cost isn’t too much of a issue thankfully.
For math/statistics/business, you could look into a school such as USC. For math/economics/some statistics, Macalester, Hamilton and Bowdoin should be researched.
